Spoiler alert! In case you missed it, the midseason finale of The Mindy Project was pretty epic and caused Mindy and Danny fans everywhere to rejoice. The coworkers with chemistry, gynecologists Mindy Lahiri and Danny Castellano (finally) kissed after Danny helped Mindy write a letter to win back her boyfriend Cliff. “You know you’re right for someone when they force you to be the best version of yourself.” Danny, you are perfect. The kiss happened on a plane, it was a complete surprise, tension was released (sooo much tension), and there was a passionate butt grab. Basically, it ranks right up there in best television kisses ever. There was also an adorable montage at the end with a lot of longing looks and touching, and the words “Happily ever after?” flashed across the screen. Unfortunately, however, fans now have to wait until April 1st to see the aftermath of the kiss.
Mindy Kaling said that the next new episode will “be dealing with the consequences of bad timing,” which means that, sadly, she is going to eventually remember that Cliff exists. Don’t get me wrong, I kind of liked Cliff up until the Mindy and Danny kiss. He was certainly better than some of Mindy’s past boyfriends, but he’s no Danny. Until then, the good news is we have two full, uninterrupted months of watching that Mindy and Danny GIF and forgetting that Cliff exists.
The Danny and Mindy kiss was highly anticipated. All of the touching, head kissing, almost-kissing, best friend, adorable moments have led to this. There was the first hand holding experience on their first turbulent plane ride together. Then, I really thought it was going to happen after Danny’s dance to “Try Again.” Danny Castellano, why didn’t you just go outside with her? That was a teaser, but it was still possible that it wouldn’t happen after that. As far as I’m concerned, there was really no going back from “You’re a woman. You should look like a woman.” In the midseason finale, Danny needed Mindy to face his father, and Mindy turned around for him. That was the moment when I knew something was going to happen. Or at least I hoped. I had a lot of hope. Then, the kiss happened. He took the water bottle out of her hand, and it was an incredible moment.
There are so many possibilities for the April 1st episode, but that’s what makes it so exciting. I don’t think Mindy and Danny will go the direction of Nick and Jess from New Girl, and that’s a good thing. As much as I want Cliff to go away right about now, he is the factor that is going to keep Mindy and Danny likeable. They’re adults, and they have obstacles. That’s why April 1st can’t be here fast enough. In the meantime, we have GIFs.
