Oh Yeahhhhhh

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CMU chapter.

Tired of Razzy Fresh?

Me too.

But I wasn’t ready to go back to Coldstone to fulfill my ice cream fix either.

This past week a friend took to me to Oh Yeah. The hippy ice-cream joint left my stomach happy and took me back to my San Francisco roots.

As soon as you walk in you’re hit with a wave of indie cool. The ice cream is served up on real bowls (not disposable paper ones), posters urging green eating and used books decorate the walls, and most importantly, the door handles are oversized spoons. You can kill time with a game of Trivial Pursuit or the deck of cards floating around the comfy ice-cream shop.

This place’s claim to fame is its mix-ins. Rather than mushing some toppings together on a marble slab a la Coldstone, Oh Yeah places all ingredients into a machine which blends toppings perfectly together.  Whatever mix-in you crave; they’ll have it, and then some.  I ordered sweet cream ice cream with coffee grinds, cookie dough and Chai Tea, one of their advertised combinations. My friend combined strawberries and balsamic vinegar, hold your judgments until you try it, ok?

The shop features a large blackboard with all of the possible mix in flavors. Fruit, goat cheese, candy corn, chocolate and baklava. If none of those suit your fancy they even serve up “magic” on the menu. Seriously.

You can grab a cup of coffee and access wifi there as well. Looks like you found a new yourself a new study spot. The parlor is tucked away in Shadyside on South Highland Street, just down the street from the new Madmex.

And oh yeah, they serve waffles too.
