Looking Cute in the Cold

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CMU chapter.

You wake up early to assemble a cute outfit — only to cover it with a huge jacket. Dressing up in the winter can sometimes feel like a waste, but there are ways to combat the cold while being fashionable. The key is optimizing parts of your outfit that aren’t covered by a jacket and investing in unique winter gear. I’m wearing a plain oversized sweater with yellow-green leggings from Anthropologie. Since the focus of my outfit is on my lower half, I can still wear a big jacket and look stylish while walking to class.

I actually look forward to snow now because it gives me a reason to wear my pom beanie from asos.com. A patterned or colorful hat is a stylish alternative to your average 180s earmuffs. If you are worried about hat hair, part your hair in the opposite direction before wearing the hat. When you take off the hat, part your hair as usual. This should prevent your hair from looking flat.

I also look forward to Pittsburgh’s notorious downpours, thanks to my Dizzy rain boots. If you struggle with dressing up in dreary weather, I recommend buying a fashionable pair of weather boots. You will have no choice but to dress up. The bow details on my boots add a nice flair and are easy to match with any pair of leggings.

The last solution to a winter fashion crisis is colorful lipstick or nail polish. I’m wearing Maybelline’s Colorsensational lipstick in Coral Crush and L’Oreal’s Color Riche nail polish in Ingenious Rose. Never underestimate the power of pink.
