Last week, posters hung all over campus advertising the free preview screening of 50/50, the new dramedy starring the hauntingly handsome, Joseph Gordon Levitt, and the hilariously pudgy, Seth Rogen. But if you didn’t get a chance to make the free screening, 50/50 opened at all theaters yesterday, and it is a must see! If you’re tight on a budget, you can head to the Southside Works Cinema on Mondays ($5.00 movies all-day-long), or you can check out AMC Loews Waterfront 22 ($5.00 movies Monday-Friday before 6:00 p.m.).

50/50 invites you into life of 27-year old Kyle (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), as he battles a life-threatening and rare form of cancer. The trailer, both funny and charming (as you would expect from Gordon-Levitt and Rogen) definitely does not give one enough prior warning—If you are a cryer, bring some tissues along to this one.

This film is the perfect mix of comedy and drama. It might make you cry, but it will also definitely make you laugh. It is a touching portrait of a young man’s daunting reality – with the threat of death looming, Adam is forced to make sense out of his life. Through the development of new relationships, and desire to fix crumbling ones, Adam’s journey will make you think about life in an entirely different way.

50/50 was the best film that I have seen in a while. I highly recommend it to anyone!

If you are interested in attending future free-screenings, you can sign up on www.gofobo.com/rsvp. The password for CMU students is ABCMU0M8A.

(Next month there is a free screening of Ides Of March, which with an all start cast of: George Clooney, Ryan Gosling, Philip Seymor Hoffman, Marisa Tomei, Paul Giamatti, Evan Rachel Wood, will definitely be worth a watch!)

Stay tuned for future info about cool things to do on and off campus!

Julianne Grauel is a sophomore Professional Writing major at Carnegie Mellon University and is originally from the California Bay Area. At Carnegie Mellon she is a peer tutor for writing and an active sister in her sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta. This past summer, she interned at Gentry Magazine and hopes to work for a magazine after college. Julianne loves football, sushi, sunshine, and dance parties. She probably consumes far too much Red Mango froyo and can’t get enough of Project Runway. In her free time she likes to travel, watch sports center, take spinning classes and, most of all, shop.
