Favorites: Valentine’s Day Edition

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CMU chapter.

As you may (or may not) be anticipating, Valentine’s day is just around the corner and if you’re like me, there are lots of things to look forward to. Whether you’re single or in a relationship, Valentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity to try out that new outfit or put on that new lipstick. To get you into the mood, here are some of my favorite looks, date ideas, and desserts for Valentine’s Day:

Favorite Makeup: Fuschia Lips

As a huge fan of both the color pink and lipstick, Valentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity to bring on the pink.Try Girl About Town by MAC Cosmetics ($16) for a sweet yet bold look.

Favorite Nails:

This sheer pink is perfect for a subtle, yet sophisticated look. Try Pink Ribbon by Butter ($15).

Favorite Dessert:

Okay, I know this isn’t under the “beauty” category but who doesn’t love sweets? Strawberry milkshake cookies not only put a spin to the classic milkshake but also to the cookie. Try this recipe here.

Favorite Hair:

While we’ve all seen this look on Lady Gaga (remember this!), it’s also great for creating a low key, yet intricate look.

Favorite Outfit:

If you’re getting tired of pink, try a monochromatic all-red look. Unlike your basic black, it’s unexpected, bold, yet sophisticated when done right. You can view this look on fashion blogger Atlantic Pacific’s site (and more!).

Favorite DIY:

Yes, Valentine’s Day fortune cookies are real! If you don’t have time to make the cookies, try a paper version (but if you do have time to make them, try this recipe here). It’s a cute way to send notes to your loved ones!

Do you have any Valentine’s Day favorites?

Emma Shi is a freshman at Carnegie Mellon University majoring in Decision Science (so she can learn how to make a decision, hopefully) and a self-diagnosed shopaholic. Along with contributing to Her Campus, she is also on the varsity swim team and in Tartan Athelete Fellowship. Her passions include all things pink, French fries, cake, skiing, New York City, and the clearance rack. She has secret ambitions of becoming an extreme couponer or the next Lauren Conrad. Unfortunately, she doesn't have an Instagram or Twitter account, but you will most likely find her on campus keeping it classy (aka probably being awkward).
I am a junior Materials Science and Engineering mjaor at Carnegie Mellon University, and I am also minoring in Professional Writing and Business. I am a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma.  I love TV and trying out new beauty products.  I follow E! on Twitter so that I can stay up-to-date on celebrity news.  I'm royal-obsessed, and I love Kate Middleton's style.  I'm kind of a Sephora addict, and I could easily spend hours there.  I also spend way too much time on Pinterest.  Finally, I love hockey and all Pittsburgh sports.
