Cold and finals got you down? Head on over to Phipps Conservatory for a quick, free, and captivating break from the library. The Winter Flower Show is now on! Phipps is featuring over 2,000 poinsettias and a magical nutcracker themed tour—the sights and smells are a wonderful reminder of the quickly approaching holiday season.

The themed tour is set to a relaxing classical composition and allows for a great escape from the harsh winter cold. Travel to the land of snow, where snowflakes dangle from the ceiling over the matching floral arrangements. Walk in to the land of the endless ocean where a beautifully lit up Christmas tree sits atop a reflection pool. However, be sure to save the best for last: Decked out in flowers of the brightest oranges, purples, and reds, the land of sweets, is by far the most gorgeous and magical room. Also, you don’t want to miss the gingerbread house, the sugarplum fairy, or the floral reindeer arrangements.

Phipps is open every evening until 10:00 p.m starting December 5th and lasting until the 31st. Head here if you need a study break—it’s just a five minute walk from Hunt, across Flagstaff Hill. Phipps conservatory, lit up with tens of thousands of LED lights, is difficult to miss.

Julianne Grauel is a sophomore Professional Writing major at Carnegie Mellon University and is originally from the California Bay Area. At Carnegie Mellon she is a peer tutor for writing and an active sister in her sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta. This past summer, she interned at Gentry Magazine and hopes to work for a magazine after college. Julianne loves football, sushi, sunshine, and dance parties. She probably consumes far too much Red Mango froyo and can’t get enough of Project Runway. In her free time she likes to travel, watch sports center, take spinning classes and, most of all, shop.
