Spring break is officially here, and whether you are going home, going on a trip, or just staying at CMU, it‘s time to forget about the CMU struggles and do something for yourself. Trust me, you deserve it. Here are 7 ideas for how to make the most of your spring break:
1. Pamper yourself
The stress of CMU leaves little time to take care of your skin. Try a homemade face mask made with avocado or a body scrub with coffee grounds! If you don’t want to make your own, try this hydrating face mask from Sephora. Your skin will thank you, and the experience will melt away the troubles in your college student life.
2. Read a book for fun
As college students, we don’t always get the chance to read for fun, but it’s so relaxing! Choose a book that takes you to a different time and place, and forget about real life for a while. Plus, you can read a book no matter where your spring break travels take you.
3. Watch a TV series
Spring break is the perfect time for a Netflix or Hulu marathon! Catch up on your favorite show or try a new one. Either way, watching TV isn’t something CMU students always make time for, but you deserve to sit back, relax, and watch your favorite characters.
4. Have a shopping spree
When we have classes every day, there’s rarely enough time for shopping. Okay, we occasionally online shop to de-stress, but we hardly ever get to have a real shopping spree anymore. Spring break is the perfect time to shop your cares away and find all of the latest spring fashions. Just be careful not to drain your entire bank account. Take advantage of those student discounts, and find the perfect dress for formal or just some cute warm-weather clothes!
5. Nourish your body
Our diets in college don’t exactly tend to be healthy. One day we are too busy to eat, and the next day we are binging on Ben and Jerry’s. Take spring break as an opportunity to get back on track. If you’re going home, you’ll have access to a real kitchen, so take advantage of it! Try a healthy recipe you found on Pinterest or use that blender to make a green smoothie. You’ll feel instantly better when you put good food into your body.
6. Go sightseeing
Whether you are in your hometown, travelling somewhere new, or just hanging out in Pittsburgh, spring break is the perfect time to be tourist. In Pittsburgh, go to a museum (we get free admission with a student ID) or just explore. In your hometown, go somewhere you’ve never been or haven’t been in a while. If you are travelling somewhere new, grab a guidebook and take in the sights. Sightseeing is the perfect way to enjoy spring break without wasting away on the couch.
7. Catch up with a friend
Everyone’s lives are so busy during the semester that we forget about our friends, whether they are old friends or current friends. If you are going home and your friends’ spring breaks fall on the same week, don’t miss the opportunity to hang out with them! If you’re going on a trip with friends or staying at CMU, don’t be glued to your phone; enjoy the company of your friends. Plus, being around people and having fun is the perfect way to de-stress!
