5 Reasons You Have to Attend Lunar Gala

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CMU chapter.

On February 13th, Rangos Ballroom will be filled with students getting ready to see one of the biggest shows on campus. If you aren’t sure why it’s so eagerly awaited, then here are 5 reasons why you should attend Lunar Gala.

1.The Theme: This year’s Lunar Gala theme is Strain. This is Lunar Gala’s 20th year, so theme is not only centered around this major milestone but also the evolution of the show as a whole. It is the Chinese year of the Monkey and the show is trying to emphasize the idea of how things are morphing over time. With such a unique theme and the excitement of the big 2-0, the show is no doubt going to be a fascinating one.

2.The Designs: Being an avid lover of Vogue and all things fashion, I was taken aback at all the creations the designers put forth. It was hard for me to believe that students just like myself were behind the making of the gorgeous pieces, which showed me just how creative and talented students here are. Each line by the designers were tied together by a central design element, but each individual piece in the collection was different.

3.The Models: The professionalism of the models just during the run through for the show was a direct reflection of the hard work that they’ve put forth to learn the proper timings and poses. They do not steal the limelight away from the designs nor do they shrink to the background; instead, they complement the clothing so perfectly.

4.The Music: Each song that the team has selected for the show was perfect in every aspect. Each of them are different from one another, so you never get bored, they each have an underlying rhythm that keep pace with the models’ walk, and it just gets you incredibly excited for each line walking down the runway.

5.The Coordination: It is unbelievable all the work that not just the models, designers, and dancers did but also the behind the scene teams. The three producers along with all the teams were always on top of their game, and within the matter of months they have put together a show that has gotten me excited from just a small glimpse. They have worked so hard to make the show work so seamlessly, that once again, it is hard to believe that students have entirely run this whole production.

If you aren’t yet convinced, then come watch the show for yourself, because I am sure you will not be left disappointed.

I am currently senior majoring in Business Administration and Statistics with a track in Finance at Carnegie Mellon University. Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, Enid Blyton and J.K Rowling are a few of my favorite authors. I also love watching British TV shows (Sherlock is my favorite!). On campus, I am involved in several activities, including Carnegie Mellon Business Association and Smart Woman Securities.
