The sun is starting to shine down upon Pittsburgh (forgot what that felt like?) so you should take advantage of the weather, get off campus for a bit, and see what Pittsburgh has to offer. As romantic as the Under Ground can be (with it’s musical nights and all) there are much better dinner date spots out there. And I know, I know, Union grill is so close, but you don’t have to worry about waiting for the bus in the snow… so go for it now, it’ll be winter again before you know it.
Â
Caffe Brugge (401 Hastings Street): A Pittsburgh restaurant with a chic feel. Swap the half-price and college grunge for a cute café a bit further from campus. Try the salmon and risotto or the muscles. This small restaurant doesn’t accept reservations so come early and anticipate a wait on weekends.
Â
Church Brew Works (3525 Liberty Avenue): What could be better than a church turned brewery? The menu features a wide array of options and most importantly, beer. The staff is knowledgeable and can guide you to your perfect pint. Make sure to go during happy hour!
Â
Girasole (733 Copeland St): Descend down the steps off of Walnut to this perfect Italian date spot. The seasonal menu reflects the proper Italian way and the restaurant occasionally also features live music. Make reservations here.
Â
Sandwich + Park: In the daily grind of CMU, it’s easy to forget the acres and acres of beautiful Scheneley park right next to campus. Grab sandwiches from Primanti Brothers (if you can stomach it), or Eat Unique then enjoy them in the park.
