1. Girl Meets World
The first of its kind, Disney’s series follows Riley, the daughter of Cory and Topanga, and her friends through the trials and tribulations of adolescence in the modern era. While we may miss the feel-good moments shared with Mr. Feeney, Corey has grown into a wonderful who is apt to guide Riley through the awkward stages of life that she is currently in.
2. Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens
J.J. Abrams has the opportunity to update the classic saga with his vision, and most definitely delivers beyond expectations. The new installment smashed box office records and pulled on the heart-strings of all viewers- both seasoned Star Wars Veterans and new fans alike. From the opening swell of the music, tears sprung in the eyes of adults who were transported to a world where they were children again, and they maintained that child-like wonderment through the next 2 hours and 15 minutes.
3. Fuller House
The series, produced by Netflix, brings back all of the original ensemble (sans Mary Kate and Ashley) to the lives of true “90’s Kids”. While it was a heavily updated version of the original series, following new kids that we didn’t even know, it maintained the same values and charm that were ever-present in the series that we grew up with. It reminded us of a time when we were young and carefree, when we probably should have been studying for midterms instead of binge-watching Netflix.
4. Friends
We were all shocked when NBC announced that there was going to be a “Friends” reunion with all the friends that we followed for 10 seasons (except Matthew Perry). While, of course, it wasn’t exactly a new season or episode that we were exactly hoping for, it was still quite a feeling to see all the friends come together again to honor Direction James Burrows.
5. High School Musical
High School Musical Karaoke was a stable of any 2007 sleepover birthday party amongst tween girls. Even to this day, no 2 a.m. ice cream run with a best friend is complete without belting “Breaking Free” at the top of your lungs. I would venture a guess that if anyone had to pick a favorite childhood franchise from the late 90’s- mid 2000’s, HSM would be a prevalent answer amongst the masses, and how ready we are for this revival. 10 years later, the people who watched the initial Troy-Gabriella duet on New Year’s Eve, will also be watching High School Musical 4 when it is released, I’d be willing to… Bet on It.
