So, I think we can all agree that the world has kind of sucked recently.  Like, a lot. But I’m here to let you know about the purest show I’ve ever seen and how much I love it.  It’s Netflix’s new original animated series, “Hilda.”

“Hilda” follows the main character, a blue-haired girl named Hilda, on her adventures through the wilderness and city with her friends, David and Frida.  Together they encounter elves who love paperwork, water spirits, teenagers who feast on nightmares, weather spirits who enjoy arguing, and some other pretty adorable creatures – all while learning how to deal with changes and everyday life.  Okay, but enough with the synopsis. Now, I’m going to tell you why this is the happiest show I’ve ever seen and why you should definitely binge watch it.

Okay, so let’s talk about this animation style.  This has to be the CUTEST animation style I have ever seen in my life.  The whole show is colored in tones of yellows, blues, and muted reds. I might be biased since this is my favorite color combination, but it definitely lends itself to an overall happy vibe.  Another aspect I appreciate is the simplicity of the animation. The animators keep everything really simple and distinctly outlined, and when they zoom out on a character, I lose it because the characters essentially turn into stick figures. I love it so much.  Like, just look at how they animate these elves. It’s adorable.

So the animation style is definitely really great and makes me happy to watch it, but the storyline of this show manages to be upbeat and cute while also complex.  I was really impressed, tbh. The series starts off with Hilda living her best life exploring the wilderness around her house, but then we get to see her move to a city when the woods are all she’s ever known.  Then we watch Hilda’s process of making friends, through some trial and error initially, before finally settling into her new home towards the end of the season. There’s definitely lots of adventures and encounters along the way, and Hilda has such a positive mentality through all of them.  Yes, I know she’s a cartoon character, but it’s just really refreshing to see a character that genuinely wants to help others and spread happiness.

In short, if you want a light, happy show for a casual watch, you should definitely watch Hilda.  Oh, and another perk is that the episodes are just over 20 minutes long and there are only 13 episodes, so you can easily binge watch this in one day if you want.  And if you fall in love with it as I did, be excited because it’s been renewed for a second season AND has an app now!  So while we wait for the second season to be released to have more precious moments to watch, we can explore all of the places that Hilda does.

Okay, that’s all from me, but please go run to watch this, so I have someone else to obsess with.
