Finding the best place to live after graduation is a tough task, especially when you want to find a balance between a well paying job and a youthful environment. Here is a little guidance to help you find the perfect city for your first “real life” job based on your major.

Art Majors

New York, New York – Without a doubt, New York is one of the most appealing, dramatic, flashy, intriguing, provocative, stimulating, and thrilling cities on Earth. New York has earned its right to be described in such a way because of it has been drenched in art and culture. New York has a variety of art institutions to employ art majors, and many art majors can be successful by simply creating and selling art on the street. Not only does it provide plenty of opportunities for employment, but the large array of cultures that reside in the area give artists an inexhaustible amount of inspiration

Finance Majors

Boston, Massachusetts – Boston is an exciting city that is bound to keep anyone who lives there on her toes. The city is saturated in bars, pubs, and delicious restaurants (as well as bakeries), allowing you to maintain a social lifestyle. Living in an environment like Boston is great for going out with friends but also serves as an easy way to meet new people in a big city! Careful though – hitting the town can get a bit expensive. To save money, drink the majority of your alcoholic beverages at home before heading out and eat in more frequently than eating at a restaurant! If you fear the cold winter days of Boston, keep in mind that the summers are beautiful with average high temperatures of 82 degrees in July. In terms of jobs, it is known for the number of asset management businesses that call Boston their home, which allows Boston to maintain a stable market in that field.

Nursing Majors

Austin, Texas – The city has a unique and lively personality that can be described as a hybrid between big city sass and southern charm. Austin is known for it’s sizable, exciting city with boundless opportunities for fun but many don’t know it provides ideal working conditions for nursing majors. As far as nursing goes, Austin was one of the least impacted cities by the recession and is predicted to have unmatched job growth during the upcoming years. With those kinds of stats, you can count on a stable working environment.

Marketing Majors

New York, New York – New York wins number one city for those who have earned a degree in marketing. It is obvious that New York is a hot spot for advertising and media industries but new graduates are particularly in high demand because the younger generation possesses more modern skills in areas such as search engine marketing and emerging media. Time Warner Cable, Polo Ralph Lauren, and Google are few big names that potential employers for marketing majors that are based in New York.
