Spring Break Tips for the Best Trip Ever!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Clemson chapter.

Spring break is coming soon! With this in mind, it’s important to remember a few tips during your time off.

Research where you’re traveling to.

If you are going to a different country, it would beneficial to research that countries culture, rules and regulations. This way you won’t offend anyone or cause any trouble. It is also a fun way to learn about different cultures and plan fun events.

Pack an empty bag.

This is a tip I share often! Whether it is for dirty clothes or souvenirs, an empty bag will always come in handy when traveling.

ALWAYS pack a swimsuit.

I would pack a swimsuit for Antarctica! I am never without one. You never know if you’ll run into a beach, hot tub or pool. Swimming is also a great activity for downtime if you stay at a hotel!

Check the weather.

I once traveled to California, unaware of the hailstorm coming. Let’s just say I opted for making a mall run instead of suffering in tanks and tees! Weather updates are available on your cell phone and will help you dress for the occasion!

Consider an alternative spring break trip.

Clemson offers many opportunities for students to take trips together on break to fun places. If you’re in the mood to make some new friends and are up for an adventure, give these a look! Clemson students should receive emails informing them of upcoming break events.

Party and drink responsibly.

Make sure you are aware of your limitations. Testing them out on vacation is not a good idea. Be sure to never leave your drink unattended or take a drink from anyone else. Date rape drugs can be put into any drink, including non-alcoholic drinks. Drinks in punch bowls or tubs are also not a good idea. You have no idea what could be in them. Drink safe!

Be aware of your surroundings.

Even though spring break can feel like a trance, be alert and aware of things and people around you. Double-check Uber license plates and names, and follow the route your driver should be taking. Also, hold your keys in your hands while you are walking to your car.

Plan ahead.

The longer you wait to buy a ticket, the more expensive they will be. Be sure to schedule any flights beforehand and write a basic itinerary for you and your gal pals! Scheduling an entire spring break trip last minute is stressful and inconvenient.

Have fun!

This is your mini-break during the spring semester! Enjoy it the best you can! Take pictures, learn new thing and indulge in your spring break fantasy!

Remember ladies and gentlemen, it’s better to be safe than sorry!

Ashleigh is a junior at Clemson University studying English and Brand Communication. She has hopes of writing for a magazine post-college. You can find her at the beach, chipotle, or in Death, Valley Stadium watching Clemson football!
Mayme Medlock is a junior at Clemson University, studying political science with an emphasis in international relations. In her free time, you'll find her chasing cute dogs, talking about studying abroad in the Balkans, watching copious amounts of Netflix, and putting people at ease when they question her name's pronunciation (May-m, not May-me).
