A Recap of January’s Weather

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Clemson chapter.

It’s no secret that this month saw some interesting weather here in Clemson. From one extreme to another, if you learned about it in elementary school science class, we experienced it this month. For those of you who may have forgotten or who simply want to relive it, here is a recap of this month’s weather. May it go down in history as the most indecisive time of the year!

Week 1:

Believe it or not, it actually snowed this month! Well…kind of. South Carolina saw snow flurries the first week of 2017. It might not have lasted long, but January definitely started off with winter (not to mention a championship win!)

Week 2:

After packing all our winter clothes into duffle bags and traveling back to Clemson, SC, we settled in for winter and the start of a new semester. I imagined walking to class bundled in boots, scarves, and my winter coat. I think I speak for Clemson students when I say I was quite surprised by the turn of events. After finishing class at 1, I would walk back to my dorm to change from my leggings into shorts. (This also happened to be the week that I got a cold thanks to the changing weather…I wonder why?) It began to feel like we skipped right to spring!

Week 3:

Week 3 was the week of the wind. Blustering winds blew through campus, and it kept many of us inside all day. The once-filled amphitheater and the busy tables outside of Starbucks emptied quickly. This week also saw daily overcasts and some rain. It definitely made waking up to go to class a challenge.

Week 4:

Now that January is coming to a close, I think the weather remembers that it was supposed to be experiencing winter. I have dug up my winter boots and scarves once again to walk to class. And when I get out of class, I still need my jacket to walk to the library or the dining hall. This week, I even went back to my dorm to change into a warmer coat.

So there you have it, a recap of this month’s rollercoaster of weather. At the moment, we have settled into colder temperatures. But that could all change next week…
