Face and Hair Mask

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Clemson chapter.

Have you ever wanted to try one of those homemade face or hair masks posted all over the Internet but you’re afraid they may make you break out or change your hair color?  Good news! I’ve taken a leap of faith and tried a few for you and chosen the three I liked best! Fortunately my experimentation did not ruin my highlights or my complexion!

Peaches and Cream Face Mask

This sounds tasty doesn’t it? Surprisingly it is also great for your skin!  This mask is made from a mixture of peaches, milk, honey, and olive oil. Milk, and olive oil have moisturizing properties while peaches have Vitamin C and Anti oxidants to help fight wrinkles and improve the look of skin!  Honey has antibacterial qualities to help fight acne and blackheads. This mask is great for moisturizing dry skin. For more oily skin, cut the milk and add a little lemon juice. I’ve used this mask a few times and my skin looks great, if I do say so myself!

Ingredients:

1 Peach

1Tsp of Honey (raw and unfiltered is best)

1Tsp of Extra Virgin Olive Oil

2tsp of 2% or whole milk

Peel, core and chop the peach. Put it and the rest of the ingredients in a blender and mix until well blended. If you don’t own a blender, a spoon works too plus you’ll get a work out by mashing up the peach!  Apply the mixture to your face and let it set for half and hour! Rinse with cold water! This mask smells and even tastes great and will make your skin feel super soft!

Honey and Lemon Face Mask

The combo of honey and lemon isn’t just for sore throats! It’s also great for your face. I loved this simple mixture of honey and lemon! Mix the juice of half a lemon and 2 Tbsp of Raw/Unfiltered honey together and apply to clean face with your fingers. Allow it to set for 20 minutes and rinse with warm water! The lemon acts as an astringent for acne and black heads while the honey moisturizes and fights bacteria!

Honey/ Olive Oil Hair Moisturizer

During my years of competitive swimming and life guarding I always put olive oil in my hair to replenish moisture that was stripped from it by chlorine and the sun. Olive oil prevents breakage making your hair grow more easily. Honey is also well known for being a great hair conditioner. I tried adding it to my old tried and true hair remedy of olive oil and it made my hair feel fantastic and look super shiny!

Ingredients:

2 Tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil

1 Tbsp Honey

(Increase recipe if you have longer hair)

Stir the mixture together and heat for 30 seconds in the microwave.  Standing in your shower lean your head over toward your toes and run the mixture through dry hair with your hands. Wrap your hair in a warm damp towel and leave it in for about 40 minutes. Wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner and style as usual. Your end result will be luscious, moisturized hair!
