Disney’s Beauty and the Beast [BATB] is a childhood classic, nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture in 1992. Today, the movie comes to a whole new life in 3D. Here’s why you should catch it before it goes out of theaters (it’s at Regal Starlight Stadium 14 in Anderson until this Friday)!
You Can Act Like a Kid
Since Beauty and the Beast was originally released in November of 1991, you probably didn’t see it in theaters the first time, but when you were a toddler a few years after its release. I believe this classic should be fully enjoyed in the same fashion as your original viewing. So, be giddy. Sneak in your favorite candy. And sing every single word of “Be Our Guest.”
It’s More Scary
When I saw this in theaters, there were two five-year-old girls in front of us – one loved the whole movie and one cried at the first of Beast’s roars. I presume that I, at that age, also enjoyed the
whole movie because I did not remember the many dark scenes. Though it may be too much for a child, appreciating these elements (including these vicious wolves) makes for a more dynamic story. Clemson boys take note: BATB 3D is a good date movie. CollegiettesÔ will get startled or even mildly scared in a few scenes (or at least act like it in order to draw you closer.) It’s a great way to show your sensitive side without losing as many man points as you would by taking her to see The Vow.
Restore Your Faith In Men
Collegiettes thoroughly know that Disney promotes unrealistically high expectations of men. However, we should also know that the college environment can conversely create unrealistically low expectations of men. Though gold rods probably won’t come shooting out of the sky when your prince charming emerges from the beast he is, this love story restores faith that boys can change. It reminds us to look for the Beasts, immature and humble, instead of the Gastons, immature and arrogant. Beauty and the Beast 3D teaches us to be patient – prince charming could be a little rough around the edges right now! But if all this is a little optimistic for you, just see this love story for what it is: Stockholm Syndrome with a touch of zoophilia.
Appreciate Humor You Missed
This is, by far, the number one reason to go see BATB 3D. Many scenes are enhanced by a little maturity. You might notice more suggestive things too. I just noticed the insane cleavage the Blondes’ had out and all the drinking during the pub scenes… all courtesy of Disney. Who knew?!
This quote practically contradicts the previous reason to ‘restore your faith in men.’ However, it is my favorite line that I’d never picked up on during the dozens of times I watched BatB in the 1990s. This is Cogsworth’s response when the Beast says, “I’ve never felt this way about anyone. I want to do something for her! But what?”…
More 3D To Come!
If you enjoy BatB 3D, you’re in luck! This the first of four 3D film releases planned by Disney (and Pixar) in the next two years:
– Finding Nemo 3D release is planed for September 14, 2012.
– Monsters, Inc. 3D release is planned for January 18, 2013.
– The Little Mermaid 3D release is planned for September 13, 2013.
So if you love Disney movies as much as I do, start a tradition! Because how cool is the Monsters, Inc. door storage area chase scene going to be in 3D?!
