Are you a shopaholic? If so, does your wallet agree with your shopping habits?   If it doesn’t, thrifting is definitely the best way to spice up your closet without breaking your bank account. Thrift shopping can seem a bit intimidating at first, but here are a few tips to help you with your next thrift store trip!

Give yourself lots of time to thrift.

To get the best experience and the best clothes, you should spend quite a bit of time looking around all of the different sections and picking through the racks. There are many great (and not so great) items in these stores, so taking the time to actually search through the items will result in the best quality clothing. I’ll admit that I may or may not be guilty of spending over 5 hours in a thrift store on multiple occasions…

Try things on — but be careful when you do.

Have you ever bought something that was SO cute when you saw it just to find out that it didn’t fit you when you got home? WORST. FEELING. EVER. I highly encourage you to pick up things that catch your eye, then try them on BEFORE you buy them. Something may look like it’ll fit and doesn’t, or vice versa. I know, I know, trying on other people’s clothes seems so gross. So, when you do try these things on, put them on as fast as possible to lessen the chances of touching someone else’s things for longer than you’d like. Also, wash your hands afterward or use some hand sanitizer to get rid of any germs. We all want cute clothes that fit while staying clean at the same time.

Check every single section.

Have you ever checked for clothes in another section other than the one that you identify as? Next time you go thrifting, check sections like the men, children, or even the home section if the thrift store has one. You’ll be pleasantly surprised at what you can find. For example, so many girls find things like adorable boyfriend jeans or baggy t-shirts in the men’s section. Don’t knock it until you try it!

Wash EVERYTHING you buy.

Immediately after you get home, WASH EVERYTHING, no matter if it’s wiping down the home decor items, washing the clothes in the laundry, or disinfecting the shoes that you purchased. Going back to the issue of germs, we don’t know where these items have been before you bought them, so cleaning them is the safest way to be healthy.

Stay cute and clean!
