10 Reasons Why We Already Miss Fixer Upper

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Clemson chapter.

After five beautiful years, the era of Fixer Upper concluded with a tear-jerking finale where fans said goodbye to their favorite design duo, Chip and Joanna Gaines. During Fixer Upper’s run on HGTV, Chip and Joanna revitalized thousands of homes in Waco, Texas, and made the small town a design destination for the shiplap-obsessed.

Casual viewers to HGTV addicts (like me) can all agree that we’re going to miss Fixer Upper and have a long future of binging reruns.

1. Chip and Joanna Gaines are #CoupleGoals

Chip and Joanna Gaines are more than just a renovation dream team. They’re a couple that will make you believe in true love and pray your soulmate will encourage your shiplap addiction as much as Chip supports Joanna’s. They support each other through all their endeavors and still make each other laugh after fifteen years of marriage, and isn’t that what it’s really about?

2. Chip is Hilarious!

Chip Gaines is hilarious. This is not up for debate. His self-deprecating humor and energetic antics are funnier than most SNL sketches. Bonus, most his jokes are aimed at making his wife laugh, and if that doesn’t warm your heart, you’re probably lying.

3. The Transformations are Remarkable

First and foremost, Fixer Upper is a show about renovation, and it executes that goal flawlessly. The transformations aren’t just beautiful- they’re mind-blowing! Chip and Joanna have a talent for taking dilapidated, unsightly homes and turning them into dream homes for their clients.

4. The Design is Stunning (and Makes Us Want a Reno)

Joanna Gaines is a design genius. While some of her decisions are impractical (I’m looking at you, white cloth sofas), they’re always beautiful. No matter your budget or aesthetic, Joanna can make it exquisite. She’s not afraid to step out of her comfort zone and play with new styles, and every transformation is #RenoInspo. If I end up buying a fixer-upper and filling it with neutral tones and shiplap, we all know what inspired me.

5. The Gaines Family is Adorable

The Gaines are more than just a charming couple – they’re a charming family! Chip and Joanna have four children and are expecting their fifth child, and as the show has aired, they’ve given viewers a glimpse into their home and their family. We all got a little choked up when their baby girl, Emmie, started school, and Chip’s road trip with the boys was so cute. But when the couple announced their newest pregnancy, HGTV fans everywhere lost their minds.

6. Their Success is So Inspiring!

The silos, the furniture line, target line, magnolia journal, the restaurant, the b&b

Chip and Joanna have come a long way since the pilot of Fixer Upper. In addition to a wildly successful show (which got an Emmy nomination last year), they’ve stacked up their resume with flourishing new ventures.

Their furniture line, Magnolia Homes, can inspire your own fixer-upper, and your Target run can include snagging a few items from their Target-exclusive line, Hearth & Hand. During your Fixer Upper withdrawal, you can read more about the couple by checking Joanna’s blog or picking up a copy of the Magnolia Journal or one of their books. If you’re as obsessed as me – or “coincidentally” in the Waco area-, the Silos are the perfect place to go! In addition to stores and bakeries, the Silos host events for the community. Some of their other bucket-list worthy businesses include their new restaurant and rental properties.

7. The Farm is Super Cute

When the show began, Chip and Joanna were finishing their farmhouse, and it became a fixture in the series. The two shared their private life at the farm, and arguably the only thing cuter than their family is this goat.

8. Demo Day!

Arguably the best part of every episode is demo day, which is when they get to destroy the house to build it back up. Even if they find a shocking surprise behind the walls, at least they got to tear it apart! It’s such a fan favorite that they sell this tee shirt.

9. The Reveals are Dramatic

Fixer Upper is extra, and we love it. As we’ve learned from this dream team, the reveal has to be as exciting as the transformation. Life-size photos remind the homeowner of what they bought, which makes their reaction that much better when they get to see their home. This level of extra is inspirational, and we can all learn from the masters.

10. The Stories are Unique and Relatable

While watching Fixer Upper, viewers get to know the homeowners, too. They can relate to their personal stories and struggles, and it makes the reveal even more emotional. We feel like we know these people and share their joy when they step into their dream home.
