Fun Things for an LDR Couple to Do on Valentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Clark chapter.

Being in a long distance relationship on Valentine’s day can be very difficult for many couples, being separated on a day you’re supposed to celebrate together can kind of put a damper on the day. But have no fear! Today I’m going to share with you a few things you can still do to celebrate the occasion despite the distance.

1. Set up a virtual date: Whether or not you and your significant other video chat often or not, making a plan to video chat each other on this day can make it feel a little more special if you do something out of the ordinary. Plan some online games to play, one website that I personally enjoy is pogo.com, which has tons of games like Scrabble, Dominos, Texas Hold Em, and Monopoly!

2. Bake (kind of) together: The power of FaceTime and Skype sets up a whole world of possibilities for people in LDRs. One activity I find particularly enjoyable is baking the same recipe together while you FaceTime! Make cupcakes or cookies and decorate them in crazy designs to reveal to each other when you’re done!

3. Watch a movie: Talk on the phone while you watch a movie together on Netflix! While it is a little difficult to sync up the movie on your computers, it’s worth the annoyance when you can both enjoy a RomCom or a romantic movie together on Valentines day!

4. Plan gifts in advance: Since you won’t be able to exchange gifts in person, plan ahead and mail each other care packages or love letters to open in front of each other via FaceTime or on the phone! While text messages are nice, there’s nothing as special as a love letter from the one you care about.

5. Plan a surprise: If you still want the element of surprise this Valentines Day, mail the gifts for your significant other to one of their close friends and have them set it up in your significant other’s room! It’s even better if you can have their friend film the surprise so you can see their reaction!

6. Make a Valentine’s-themed playlist: Prepare a playlist for each other and write a few sentences on why you chose the songs. Thanks to Spotify, creating and sharing playlists is easier than ever, create it and send it to your significant other over text or Facebook messenger! They’ll be able to listen to the songs all day and think of you.

Thanks to technology, being in a long distance relationship on Valentine’s day is easier than ever. There are so many activities you can do “together” even if it isn’t physically. Feel free to use the ideas above, or create your own variations!
