It’s getting to be that time of year and finals are quickly approaching. If you want to take some of the stress out of finals week there are a lot of things you can do right now to set yourself up for success. Using these tips, you’ll be able to take on finals week like a champ!

  1. Make a bomb playlist – if you’re going to get sh*t done when finals come around, you’ll need a motivating playlist. Start curating a list of the best songs now so you can just hit play when you finally sit down to study.
  2. Stake out your favorite study spot in the library – the library can be a battleground when it comes to finding study spots during finals. Start scoping out the scene now so you know exactly where you’re going when you get to the library.
  3. Get your chores done before – you may not want to tidy up your room or do the dishes right now, but you REALLY won’t want to when finals week rolls around. Spend a couple hours doing your chores now so you won’t have to worry about it later.
  4. Plan out good study outfits – it can be so tempting to wear the same sweats over and over again during finals, but try to plan out some good study outfits now so you don’t have to think about it later. Changing up your outfit will help you feel refreshed and focused.
  5. Have a friend change your social media/Netflix/Tumblr passwords until after you’re done with studying – the weeks leading up to finals are challenging as well, so maybe it’s time to take a break from social media until after finals are over. If you struggle with self-discipline when it comes to the Internet, have a friend change your passwords now so you that even if you’re tempted you’ll have no choice.
  6. Schedule your time now – making a tentative schedule now will only help you when you get to finals week. Plan out trips to the gym and meals so that you’ll force yourself to take breaks from working and have some time for yourself.
  7. Figure out the changes to quiet hours in your residence hall – during finals, quiet hours get extended so people can study in their dorms. Make sure you know when these are now so you can plan your schedule around them.
  8. Get all your favorite study snacks beforehand – even worse than finals week is finals week with no food. When you’re cramming for a test it can be hard to find time to cook, so do some meal planning now and make a trip to the grocery store to stock up on supplies.
  9. Calculate your grades or check in with professors to make sure you know how you need to do on finals – doing this now will help you gauge where you’re at in your classes and how hard you have to work for finals.
  10. Make sure you get a lot of sleep beforehand – getting sleep during finals is important, but making sure you get enough leading up to them is even more important. It will help you stay focused to be well rested when you start studying (even if your sleep schedule goes haywire after…)
