A Letter to the Struggling College Student

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Clarion chapter.

Dear student,

It is okay, we have all felt this way before. You are not, and will not, ever be alone.

I’m sure you are feeling stressed or even letting yourself down. You probably feel like your college life is crashing down below your feet. You may be feeling judged by your peers, parents, or even yourself. It may seem like you have finally hit a breaking point with your college relationship and you are completely ready to fall full force in a pile of your own tears and aggravation. It is okay. You may be behind and on the verge of not graduating on time. Sometimes you are pushed to do way more than you could possibly handle at once. Your past classmates may be passing you by. You may be confused on what the future holds for you. The stress about graduate school requirements are overbearing and you just don’t know what to do anymore. There could be a possibility that you even want to switch your major. You have probably been sleep deprived. You may be trying your hardest to not force yourself to take time off or skip a class. The stressful situations are constantly there and never seem to vanish.

Although it may not seem this way, these feelings and emotions are all okay and normal. There is just one thing that you need to know.

You are doing great. Everyone struggles in college at one point or another. As long as you know that no matter what you see around you, and no matter what your outcome is supposed to be; you are doing great. You are going the pace that you need to go for yourself. Don’t pay attention to the people around you. Do what you feel is right for yourself and do not let others tell you otherwise. You may be ahead or you may be behind. You are trying to do the best for you. You may be close to graduating and have come to the realization that this is just not the right future for you, your choice is your choice and you need to do what you feel is best. If you need a break, take a break. Sit down, relax, and breathe. This is your future. We have all felt this intimidating stress over us at least once in our college career. That will always be okay.

Just remember, as long as you are doing the best that you possibly can in your stressful college years, then you are already on the right track for your own success.

Sincerely,

Another struggling college student
