10 Shows to Binge Watch on Netflix

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Clarion chapter.

If you’re like me and like to binge watch Netflix, than I’ve got an article for you. I have had Netflix for a year and half now and absolutely do not regret it one bit. Netflix has given me a chance to watch shows repeatedly for hours on end. I have found some of my favorite shows. I am here to suggest some shows that you may or may have not seen on.

1. Friends

This show is truly a comedic relief. Rachel Green, Monica Geller, Phoebe Buffay, Ross Geller, Joey Tribbiani, and Chandler Bing keep you laughing throughout the entire show. The banter that they all contribute between each other is something I see my friends and I doing half of the time. I spent most of last summer watching all 10 seasons and I loved every second of it. It kept me on my toes a lot, and I was always excited to see what was next. Every time I hear the opening credits I do the claps. The bonding moments between the six friends on the show are friend goals.

2. Grey’s Anatomy

Now on their thirteenth season, Grey’s Anatomy is still going strong on Freeform. Shonda Rhimes has done an amazing job with the 291 episodes that she has created. I have been on an emotional roller coaster with this show. It was recommended to me by a friend and I haven’t looked back. The ups and downs in the lives of the doctors on Grey’s is will always have mewith  a box of tissues nearby when I watch (just to be safe because you never know what will happen in an episode).

3. Hart of Dixie

I started watching this show at the beginning of the semester and I absolutely love it. I just started the third season out of a total of four and cannot stop watching it. I choose to watch it on a whim and have yet to regret it. Zoe Hart had her whole life planned after she graduated from college. She was going to be one of New York’s top Cardiothoracic Surgeons just like her father but everything changes. She accepts an offer to work under Dr. Harley Wilkes down in Bluebell, Alabama. When she gets down there she finds out that Dr. Wilkes has died and left his half of the practice to her. I highly recommend it.

4. Switched at Birth

This was another show that a friend had recommended to me. All I remember is sitting in her room and watching one episode where they were never switched at birth in the first place. Which to be honest was probably the worst one to watch if you have never seen the show in the first place. This show is great to watch between the drama and the sign language, something is always there to keep you on your toes. This show has taught me a lot of simple signs.

5. Gilmore Girls

I’ve watched this show so many times with my mom that we can sometimes quote it. This show was something my mom and I bond over when I would come home from school when she doesn’t work. I always dreamed of the relationship that Rory and Lorelei Gilmore had with each other. It shows a lot of what a mother-daughter relationship goes through no matter if you’re a single parent or not. This show is cute and always surprises you with different things that Rory and her mother go through.

6. The Flash

I started watching this show with my dad. It’s something that we bond over, action movies and TV shows. The Flash is about a man named Barry Allen getting struck by lightning after a particle accelerator blew up. Barry wakes up at STAR labs after being in a coma for nine months. He’s a whole new person, however with the power of super speed. Along the way he discovers that he is not the only one that received powers that night. He and a few employees of STAR labs have a goal to protect Central City and solve his mother’s murder.

7. Supergirl

This is another show that I watch with my dad. This show caught my eye one day when I was watching The Flash. It’s is all about Kara Zor-El/Danvers. Kara, Superman’s cousin, was twelve years old when her planet was falling apart. Her parents sent her to follow Superman to keep him safe when they landed, however her ship was knocked off course until she was knocked back on course to Earth. She lived with her foster parents while hiding her powers until now. Twenty-four years later she finally uses her powers to save a plane her foster sister was on. She is soon caught by the Department of Extra-Normal Operations. The organizations director gives her a proposition to work together to save Earth from the galaxie’s worst criminals.

8. Arrow

Another action TV show (obviously means that I watch it with my dad). This show is about a young man named Oliver Queen, who was in the shipwreck that left 3 others dead, including his father. After being stranded on a deserted island for five years, he is desperate to save the city that he used to call home. In order to do this, he must use the fighting skills he learned on the island and his trusty bow and arrow. He is determined to save the city that his father has ruined.

9. Once Upon a Time

This shows takes a whole different view on fairy tales. It’s filled with magic, drama, action, and love. Snow White and her Prince Charming get married, but not before the Evil Queen can speak her peace. The Evil Queen curses the Enchanted Forest and the only way that the kingdom can be saved is by the savior. The Savior is Snow and Charming’s daughter, they sent her through a magical tree into our world. On her 23rd birthday, a young boy knocks on her door to tell her just that, however she doesn’t believe him but takes him back home to Storybooke, Maine.

10. Law & Order: SVU

Now on it’s eighteenth season on television. This show takes the cake on crime. It takes place in New York City, it follows the Special Victims Unit of the NYPD who investigate sexually related crimes. My favorite character would have to be Olivia Benson. She is so head strong and knows what she has to do in order to get the bad guy/girl. She has learned so much from her boss and partners that she now has the title of Lieutenant. It’s inspiring to see a woman in charge of something so important.

Now those are only a few of my favorite shows, but I highly recommend checking out at least the first episode of each of them. If you aren’t hooked from the start then don’t worry there is something for everyone on Netflix.
