Meet Our Cutie Giorgia: Half Spanish, Half Italian, Entirely Shakespeare Lover!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at City London chapter.

“The course of true love never did run smoothly,” said Shakespeare. I am pretty sure that after this one line you all have already guessed who is our cutie of the week: our wonderful Hermia – aka Giorgia Angelini Marquez!

We saw her brilliant performance in the City Drama Society ‘s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” (and I truly hope you all had the chance to watch the play!), but I guess you would like to know more about her and about how different she is from Hermia’s character. Then all you have to do is keep reading…!

Name: Giorgia Angelini Márquez

Major & Year of Study: BSc International Politics, 2nd Year

Country of origin: Half Spanish/Half Italian, London raised

Relationship status: Single

Why did you join the Drama Soc? I really enjoy drama and I thought it would be a good way to get involved in something arty again after a year of not doing anything related. I also thought it would be a good way of meeting people with the same interests in performing arts who go to my same university.

Which emotions did you feel on stage? Aside from the ones we had to “act”, I felt a mixture of nerves and excitement. It all really depends on what happens on stage. Sometimes I’d forget a line or make a mistake and I think “Crap!” so then I’d feel nervous again, but I obviously have to go on as if nothing happened. I also felt really at home, in some weird way, and always with a sense of happiness throughout. It’s great.

Second year is over now. Best and worst memories? Best memories are the general feeling of properly establishing the new friendships that we made in first year and all the fun I had with my friends from uni. I also went to New York in November – pretty much the best thing ever – I spent my first Christmas holidays in London, of course the play and everything that came with that! Worst memories are probably deadlines and exams period… As always.

Any plans for the summer? So far I’m going to Berlin with some friends for a week, and I’ll probably be going to Spain at some point in August. Aside from that nothing concrete, although I have been applying to a lot of internships and work abroad. Hopefully I’ll be lucky and get something.

Leave us with your favourite quote from A Midsummer Night´s Dream! There were so many of my own and of the other characters lines which were good, but the one which never failed to get me crying with laughter was: “But hast thou yet latch’d the Athenian’s eyes, With the love-juice, as I did bid thee do?” (Oberon – Jovan Watty). It might not seem like the funniest line of the play but it’s a bit of an “if you know, you know” kind of line. So hilarious!
