Christmas Shoppers: Which One Are You?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at City London chapter.

Twenty days before Christmas! Even if the countdown has started many days ago – and everyone seems to be loving the atmosphere, the lights and the upcoming holidays – one thing always makes people really stressed at Christmas time: PRESENTS. Buying presents for someone should be a demonstration of our affection for them. More often than no,t however, it ends with a frenetic last-minute Christmas Eve shopping, where we tend to grab the first thing left on the shelves and run away from the chaos as quickly as we can. So, what Christmas shopper are you this year?

  • The pragmatic: You are practical and realistic. Christmas presents are a tradition,  and you don’t want to be the one whose gifts are missing under the Christmas tree. But at the same time, you think that nowadays people don’t have to wait till December to give each other gifts and there is not really something people want or need. So, in order to invest you money in the most intelligent way and to get the best outcome from you efforts, you have already started asking your family and closest friends – for you doesn’t make much sense to buy something for everyone you know – what they want for this Christmas. During this and the next week, but never during weekends, list in hand you will start searching in the shops the best deal and you will buy straight off the list. These are your holidays too, and the best present you can give yourself, is don’t stress.
  • The indolent: Moderately lazy, you believe that technology and Internet were invented to make our life easier. So for this Christmas you will make the most out of them and you will buy your presents online. There are many websites ready to offer good deals, delivery included. Enough of the stress of waking wake up early, getting ready, going out in the cold, fighting with people for the same item, walking with your hands full of presents. All the shopping you want is only a click away from you, while you are still in your warm and comfy bed. You also think that you can find lots of unusual gadgets on the web, ideal to best match the peculiar exigencies of the people you know. But if the deal is good you could even decide to buy the same thing for all your friends. In the end, you love them all at the same way, and it’s the thought that counts.
  • Santa’s little helper: You just LOVE Christmas, you have been waiting for this moment for eleven months! You are a fanatic of the Christmas shopping and you put extreme care in finding the present gifts for the ones you love. And in fact, it happens often that once you have searched and explored all the shops in town, more than in one occasion, in the end you prefer to do it yourself. Personalise is you diktat. Whether it is cooking special dishes to share with your loved ones, or crafting, painting and knitting you will give everyone something unique and extra valued because it was made with you hands. But if your personal artist skills fail to help, you can also count on personalised items sold in shops. Here there are some ideas of the things you can add your personal touch to:  Monopoly, jewellery, house goods – like glasses, mugs, coasters -, bedding and bed linen, iPhone covers and many, many others.
