As this whole college thing picks up, it can be so easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle of school, friends, and everything in between. My freshman year has become exactly that. Lost. Pure chaos. I am not the type of person that enjoys living in chaos; I will always prefer to have a step by step organizational plan of how my day is going to go and how it is going to be conquered. Long story short, the adjustment period that happens in the first few weeks of college was definitely challenging for me, until I figured out a routine full of checks and balances.

I am definitely a big believer in the notion that once success is reached, rewards should be taken. But, I’ve also learned that it is the small things in life that make your day worth it. So now, I decide to treat myself.

After my last class on Friday, I treat myself. After a good grade, I treat myself. When I feel accomplished, I treat myself. I let myself watch Netflix, take a nap, and I let myself not stress out about classes. Those are my presents.

I’ve also taken note about becoming present in my own surrounding. It is so often that we are caught up in work, what our friends are doing, what our boyfriends are doing, and what other student organizations we can become involved with. It is for this reason that I take time to take a few deep breaths, tell myself that there is more to life than just this one math problem, and that today is going to get better. If not today, then tomorrow. I try my hardest not to get too worked up over one thing. I try to pause and look around and be grateful for what I’ve got. Perhaps we could all use some of this in our lives.
