love: ləv: noun

  1. an intense feeling of deep affection.

  2. a person or thing that one loves.

lust: ləst: noun

  1. very strong sexual desire.

Love and lust are two four-letter words that our generation gets confused the most. When you find someone really attractive, someone that you’re into, and someone who gives you the same amount of time, energy, and attention that you’re giving them–you can’t help but think this might be love, right? Wrong. Lust can correlate with infatuation. A lot of times, people can confuse someone being totally into them and mistake it for love, which is how most people get their hearts broken. The truth is, infatuation is way worse than lust and when these two come together: can cause hell. Are you in love? Or is it lust? If you’re not sure, I’m here to break it down for you:

5 signs that you’re in lust and not love:

1. You care more about what’s on the outside vs. inside.

You can’t keep your eyes off of him or her. You can stare at them for hours. You’re just so obsessed with the way they look. You could care less about their personality or how they are as a person.

2. They’re just your own personal fantasy.

You never thought you could be with someone this good-looking, right? But on the flip side, you know y’all aren’t going to last. You’re total opposites of each other or way too similar. You’re changing yourself just to be with that person because you don’t think you’ll meet someone of this caliber again. You think you can make it work even when it just isn’t working.

3. All you do is have sex.

The energizer bunny has nothing on you two in the bedroom, but that’s just it: It’s only sex. You have nothing in common. There is no substance in the relationship.

4.You can’t bear to hold a conversation with them.

When you have nothing in common but intense attraction, it’s kinda hard to hold a conversation. Why talk when you can just have sex?

5. You’re just lost in the sauce.

You two don’t share any intimacy, there is no friendship or commitment, you always feel the need to impress him or her, and you simply can’t be yourself. You can’t share your insecurities or problems with this person because you two are ultimately nothing and only go with the flow.

So this isn’t you and your partner? Okay, you just might be in love. Being in love is one of the most amazing emotions to feel. When you’re in love, it’s like you’re on a little personal high and no one can take that from you. Everyone should have the opportunity to feel the bliss from loving someone that accepts them fully.

Don’t know if you’re in love? Well, here are the 5 signs that you just might be:

1. Can we get much closer?

You’re always trying to be with your significant other. Quality time with him or her is all you want to do. You love finding out more about your partner and building a bond.

2. If I was your best friend…

Dating someone that you love and are in love with will feel like coming home to your best friend every day.

3. Compromise.

When you’re in love with someone or just love someone, in general, you’re willing to always compromise and accommodate each other’s needs.

4. Unconditional Love.

You’re willing to love that person no matter what, through thick and thin.

5. You become a better person

Your relationship shouldn’t be toxic. You should be able to learn from your partner and grow with them. When you’re with the right person, the glow up will be real.
