What We Love About Halloween

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chatham chapter.

Halloween is over, and we’re already reminiscing. Here’s what we love about October 31:

Amy Chau, Social Media Director

“Chatham’s costume competition. It’s entertaining to see different kinds of interesting costumes.”

Onastasia Youssef, Blog Section Editor and Entertainment Writer

“Everything! In particular, though, there truly is something special that happens that time of year when the veil between the worlds lifts. You really can sense your place in both nature and history.”

Shannon Ward, Writer

“The thing I love most about Halloween is getting to make a costume. It’s the one time a year that people get to dress up like somebody else and eat buckets full of candy!”

Rosemary Davies, Photographer and Writer

“For most of us, Halloween has lost a lot of cultural and historical relevance. Even though this may be a “Hallmark Holiday”, Halloween still has its perks. The tradition of costuming helps build empathy and unity between people. On this day, witches, fairies, princesses, and monsters can share the same space in harmony. If only fairy tales were that accepting! But, Halloween remains that one day where we can all get along.”

Stephanie Welling, Head Photographer

“Everything! The candle scents, the decorations, the excuse to have horror movie marathons, I love it all. It’s such a perfect fall holiday and I love all things scary, so it’s perfect to me.”

Gretchen Geibel, News/Lifestyle Section Editor

“Halloween movies and haunted houses are the best part of Halloween in my opinion! I have a special soft spot for Hocus Pocus and for a haunted house near Butler called Cheeseman’s. I also really enjoy looking up and practicing Halloween themed makeup (be it as elaborate as a full face look or as simple as an eye look).”

Kaitlin Tomko, Writer

“I love seeing the really little kids dress up in cute costumes.”

Brittany DeMeno, Business Team

“I love everything about Halloween! Costumes, the apple cider, the smell of pumpkin. And definitely, pumpkin rolls, and the changing/falling of leaves.”
