Shannon Ward
Year: 2015
Area of Study and Why You Chose It: Creative Writing. Ever since I was a little kid I have always loved to have someone read to me. It’s my dearest ambition to someday have someone cherish my writing as much as I’ve cherished the authors of my childhood.
Hometown and Your Favorite Thing About It: Burgettstown, PA. The best thing about my hometown is that it is the perfect combination of country and city. It is located in an area where a person could easily drive to larger towns, but is also small and green enough to feel like it is a world away from urbanization.
Extracurricular Activities: Creative Writing Club, Scholar’s Advisory Board, rock climbing, and community service
Favorite Book: Impossible to answer! At the moment, The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
Favorite Musician/Band: Breaking Benjamin
Favorite Movie: How to Train Your Dragon
Favorite TV Show: Friends
Perfect Friday Night: Working on a recycling project with a few close friends around to chat
What did you do over the summer? I had a really quiet summer. For the majority of the break, I worked on cleaning projects around my house. In the last two weeks before RA training, my family visited Rehoboth Beach and the “Go Ape” outdoor adventure park in Maryland.
What was the best part of your first week back at Chatham? The best part of my first week back at Chatham was getting to see old friends and new faces. I really missed my extended family over the summer and it was nice to add new people to the sisterhood as well!
What are you most looking forward to this semester? It’s hard to pick just one thing, but I’m probably most excited for the Halloween Dinner! It was such a great experience last year and I can’t wait to see more unique, Chatham-exclusive costumes (and maybe take home the “Best Use of Recycled Material” prize for a second year!).
Favorite Thing About Being a Chatham Woman: The exclusive opportunities that come with being part of this great community. Chatham has opened so many doors for me in such a short period of time. I have never felt more at home than I do on this campus.
