Everyone needs a cutie in February. How about a furry one?

While Lolcats and Loldogs can easily satisfy your urge for the adorable, Pittsburgh has a ton of opportunities to connect with some seriously cuddly critters! We’ll be adding a new opportunity to our guide every day through Friday, February 10—just in time to plan a pre-Valentine’s Day weekend with the puppy (or kitty or penguin) of your dreams!

Cupids & Canines
Western Pennsylvania Humane Society
Saturday, February 11
7:30pm to 11pm
Cefalo’s Nightclub
It’s an event to benefit animals, but you stand a good chance of meeting a human cutie at Cupids & Canines! Visit the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society website for info and to order tickets.

Hearts and Flyers: A Look at Bird Courtship

National Aviary
Sunday, February 12, 2012
3:30pm
Join Education Program Coordinator Caitlin Stone for a super cool lecture on bird romance. Since it’s free with General Admission, hang out before or after to check out eagles, owls and other feathered friends. Bonus? The Aviary is hosting FlamingoFest the Saturday and Sunday before Valentine’s Day; it’s a great opportunity to meet the new flamingo! They’ll be offering a ton of kids activities from 11am to 3pm each day, so it’s a perfect place to take little siblings or cousins.

Must Love Dogs!

Animal Friends
Friday, February 10, 2012
7pm to 8:30pm
It’s always a great time to volunteer at Animal Friends, but this Valentine’s Day they’re giving singles a way to connect with two kinds of cuddly cuties. If you’re at least 21 and have $20 in the bank, you can buy a ticket to Must Love Dogs! This speed-dating event is for you and your puppy: meet at least 15 people who are just as compassionate as you are! For more info, check out the Animal Friends website.

Penguins on Parade
Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium
Noon, Saturdays and Sunday through March 16
March of the Penguins isn’t just a movie. This winter, the Pittsburgh Zoo wants you to experience the squee-inducing magic of wonderfully waddly macaroni penguins! If it’s wildly cute on YouTube, you know it’s worth the trip. Just don’t forget to call ahead for confirmation (and be sure not to leave your camera in your dorm!).
