Name: Claire Swauger
Â
Year: Sophomore
Â
Hometown and Your Favorite Thing About It: Greensburg, I love to walk around the downtown area at night when I have a lot on my mind. It can be reminiscent of a labyrinth.
Â
Favorite Movie: Earth Made of Glass
Favorite TV Show: C-Span trumps any show. One day I will exclusively watch it with my 20 cats.
Â
Favorite Book: A People’s History of The United States. It’s the bible of the oppressed.
Favorite Musician/Band: Lil’ Wayne/Pink Floyd.
Â
Favorite Food: Pad Thai
Â
Major and How You Picked It: Environmental Science. Human rights has always been my foremost passion and what could be a more near and dear subject than the justice of our livelihood: the food we eat, the water we drink and the air we breathe? I love the humanities, but the basis of my education will be in natural science.
Â
Favorite Place on Chatham’s Campus and Why: Anderson. Nothing’s better than food and friends.
Â
What are you reading right now? I’m having a hard time committing to anything in particular since the news has been an interesting time sink, but I’m working on an anthology called The Great Political Theories.
Â
If you could go anywhere in the world on an all-expenses-paid vacation, where would you go? For nostalgic purposes I would revisit my childhood in China and around Southeast Asia. I would particularly like to spend time in Thailand and Borneo where my family used to vacation.
Â
Dream Job: Prime Minister of these United States :P
Â
Why you chose Chatham: There’s the very politically correct answer to this and the not so, but they kind of meld together. I transferred to Chatham because I thought it would keep my party-girl syndrome at bay (which it has), but I’ve really fallen in love with the institution. This isn’t a school that you attend to get the average college experience. You come here to acquire an authentic education and to learn to become a woman in your own right. There’s nothing more a woman needs than a propensity for curiosity and a limitless supply of wit.
