Why Coconut Oil Is Your New Best Friend

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chapman chapter.

Coconut oil is one of the most useful things you can have in your cabinet, and it can be used in both your kitchen and your beauty routine!

1. It makes an awesome moisturizer.

Coconut oil is one of the best natural moisturizers around. It can be used directly on the body and will make you smell like a tropical paradise. So use it on your legs, arms – everywhere! It is great post-shave and can help dry elbows in the winter.

2. It’s inexpensive.

Coconut oil sells at about $15 for a 32 ounce jar, which is more than enough to last you a few months. You can order it on Amazon, or pick it up at your local grocery store (Trader Joes coconut oil is my favorite).

3. It works well on dry lips.

Looking for a natural lip balm to keep your lips healthy? Coconut oil is a perfect alternative. Just dab some on your lips, and it will leave them feeling super soft. The yummy coconut flavor is also a plus.

4. It’s a sweet add to any meal.

If you want a bit of extra sweetness in your cooking, add a spoonful of coconut oil. It’s great in oatmeal, cookies, and even just plain.

5. It’s good for your health.

Coconut oil has been proven to help your immune system and even increase energy to burn fat. Eating it plain or mixed into something else can improve your internal and external health.

6. It can be used as an amazing hair mask.

Want softer and richer hair? After shampooing, leave a coconut oil mask on your hair for 5-10 minutes. Rinse it off and you’ll be surprised at how moisturized and nourished your hair feels.

7. It can help increase brain function.

Cramming for a final? Need a boost for studying? Try a spoonful of raw coconut oil. It’s been proven to help jump start your brain functioning.

8. It is a great add to your coffee.

Adding coconut oil to your coffee can give it some extra sweetness and flavor. So next time, skip the creamer and go straight for the oil.
