This week I had the opportunity to taste Starbucks’s new holiday inspired drink: the Holiday Spice Flat White.  Starbucks only recently came out with the Flat White, so a holiday inspired one was something I wasn’t quite expecting.

According to Starbucks, the Holiday Spice Flat White is made of “Smooth ristretto shots of Christmas Blend Espresso Roast and perfectly steamed micro-foam are infused with warm holiday spices to create a festive version of an espresso classic”.

Now, I’m not much of a coffee person (unless you consider the ones that are loaded with chocolate or sugar), but I’m always willing to try anything holiday-y.  As I took my first sip, my initial impression was that it tasted a lot like black coffee with cream, no spices, no nothing.  But after I swallowed it, I realized it had a nice aftertaste.  It kind of reminded me of a combination of the Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte (PSL), the Starbucks Gingerbread Latte, and the Starbucks regular Flat White.  It may sound strange that a coffee drink can have so many flavors, but they were all subtle.  It didn’t have a very strong coffee flavor, but I could definitely tell that it didn’t have as much sugar as some of their other drinks.

Overall, it was a good drink.  Would I order it again?  Yes.  But not on a regular basis.
