An Open Letter To The Girls That Doubt Their Own Beauty

Dear you,

No matter how cliché it may seem, let me tell you, you are truly beautiful. Don’t try to tell me I’m wrong, don’t try to find a way to prove me wrong, let the fact that you’re beautiful sink in for a second.

Now let me tell you that I genuinely know what it feels like to think you’re not beautiful. Even after preaching self-love to everyone around me, I find it confusing that for me, most of the time, it’s hard to say “I’m beautiful” and actually feel like it. So please don’t think I’m this perfect role model for beauty, because I’m not. All I’m trying to do is help you avoid the darkness that can come from hating who you are and what you look like. It’s a feeling no woman should ever endure because it’s simply not true. We are all beautiful in our own way.

I too have found myself doubting my own beauty one too many times throughout the 19 years of my life. I’ve just recently been accepting myself these past couple of years for who I am. Although I still have a long way to go, let me tell you, the grass really is greener on the other side. There’s a sense of incomparable freedom when you decide to stop being a slave to your mirror, your social media likes, other people’s comments and especially your own.

There are so many more things in life to worry about than just trying to look perfect all the time and at the end of the day the choice is up to you. No one is going to worry about whether or not you think you’re beautiful, not really, so why not choose to believe you are? If there are people that don’t agree with that, then let them disagree, the only thing you should ever need is your own opinion of yourself.

I’m not trying to tell you how to live your life, and I’m not asking you to be perfectly content with yourself 100 percent of the time. All I’m proposing is that you try loving yourself for a change. You are beautiful, but don’t forget you don’t need beautiful to be happy. There are so many things to love about yourself, and choosing just one can make a huge difference.

Love the vessel of strength that is your body. Love the kindness that is in your heart. Love the incredible ideas that are in your head. Choose to love any part of who you are, because to be honest you are truly incredible.

Sincerely,

A girl that’s still trying to figure out her own beauty
