Open Letter To All Valentine-less People

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chapman chapter.

Hello fellow single-and-ready-to-mingle individual,

This isn’t another social media post about what to buy for your valentine or 10 cute places to take your significant other. This isn’t a post to rub in the fact that you don’t have a valentine because why should anyone rub that fact in? And lastly, this definitely isn’t a post to hate on those who are in relationships- if you’re in one, keep going strong!

But back to the point: embrace your singleness. Own it. You are a one-man-wolf pack.

Don’t be upset when you see couples and their V-day posts. Don’t worry about what other people are doing. It’s so easy to get caught up in other people’s lives and start stalking the crap out of people’s social media accounts. We’ve all been there and done that… Take this day to focus on you. Realistically, who knows you better than yourself? Whether you go pamper yourself or go on an adventure to somewhere new, take advantage of the fact that it’s on a Sunday this year (they don’t call it Sunday funday for nothing!).

Or if you’d rather, gather up a group of your BFFs—which absolutely includes your parentals (if they’re close by)— to hang out with you. Rent a movie! Go do something spontaneous! The options are endless.

Many of us single people approach Valentine’s Day with caution and fear it like the plague. 90% of you hates every couple you see and the other 10% wants to be them. Lets get rid of that negative mindset and turn it into something positive. You get out of your day what you put into it. If all you do is mope around and wish upon that little star for your prince/princess to come and save you, you wont be doing yourself any justice. Just because you’re single it doesn’t mean you can’t have fun on Valentines Day.

Remember that cliché of every single person on Valentine’s Day being an unhappy, lonely, binge-snacking crazy-person? No? Because I don’t. You don’t need anyone else to make you feel great (that’s why they invented Netflix duh— just kidding).

You do you.
