To My Older Sister,

It’s funny because when you left for college, I thought that we would drift apart with our separate lives, but I think it made our relationship even stronger. You’re the one who I can call with just about any problem. Unless you’re in class or sleeping, you’ll always call me back and help me try to figure my life out. If I call you and I’m crying, you’ll stay on the phone with me until I feel better, even if it takes an hour. I know this sounds so cliché, but I truly can’t imagine my life without you.

When I was younger, Dad always told me that I was lucky to have such an incredible older sister. I’ve always loved you of course, but I haven’t always appreciated everything you do for me. This year has really opened my eyes to how incredible you are and always have been. College hasn’t been the easiest for me, but you’ve been there for me for every celebration, crisis and everything in between.

People might read this and think, “They can’t get along 24/7,” and they’re right, because we don’t. We’ve had more fights than I can even count and some bruises (sorry about that time when I pushed you into a glass table) along the way. Our relationship definitely isn’t perfect, but I wouldn’t want it to be. Fighting helps us keep our comebacks fresh.

Honestly, you were born to be my big sister. There are so many reasons why, but I think an important one is that you’re still speaking to me after 19 years. Jokes aside, it’s true. I’m not always the easiest to deal with, but you never give up on me. Nobody looks out for me like you do. Even when you’re 80 miles away, you still take the time to make sure I got back to my room okay. You have your own social life and crazy busy schedule, but you always take the time to check on me.

You’re one of the most determined people I know, and I can’t wait to see everything you achieve in this next stage of your life post-college. I’ll be cheering you on and hopefully, I can be there for you as much as you’ve been there for me. I’m beyond proud to not only have you as my big sister but also my best friend.
