How to Stay Productive Over Summer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chapman chapter.

With only a few more weeks of school left, summer is quickly approaching!  Now that classes are finally coming to an end, its time to wind down, spend time with some friends, and relax. Although it’s fun to let go of everything and have some fun for a bit, you should also try to make the best of your summer as opposed to just bumming around. Listed below are a few ways to stay productive over the next few monthes.

1.  Get a summer internship or find one for the fall

Summer is the perfect time to make moves towards your career goals.  Take time doing research, find out what types of internships are available in your area, and organize your resume.

2. Catch up on some light reading

Throughout a majority of this past semester, you likely spent time focused on your studies and enjoyed any free time watching Netflix or sleeping. Grab a book, or even possibly a few, of your choosing this break! As surprising as it may seem, reading by choice is much more enjoyable than when you’re being forced to do it for school.

3. Get a Job

If you’re running low on money, summer is the best time to stack up on cash. During this time of the year, plenty of businesses are looking for extra help. Make a list of places you’d like to work and find out if they’re hiring!

4. Hit the Gym

Now that the weather’s warming up, you’re bound to hit the beach or go to the pool on a sunny day. By working out, you’ll be able to stay bathing-suit body ready for the next few months. Plus, you’ll be in even better shape when you return to school in the fall.

5. Volunteer

When you’ve got some free time, take a day or so to help others out. Volunteering is the perfect way to give back to the community and many organizations are looking for people to help out during these open months. Aside from the satisfaction you’ll achieve from doing good, you can list this experience on your resume.

6. Travel

Whether you travel to the next city away from your town or to a different country, try to find a way to go somewhere different. Travelling allows you to take a moment to escape from reality and enjoy time with your friends and family.

No matter what you decide to do these next upcoming months, be sure to enjoy yourself! Summer goes by quick and it’ll be fall sooner  than you realize it, so try to make the best of it!
