#Goals. It’s a commonly used phrase to describe something you want, desire or may be jealous of. For example, “Wow look at her makeup #Goals.” It’s also frequently posted in photo comments such as #squadgoals or #relationshipgoals. As easy as it is to throw this phrase about, we seem to be losing the true process behind goals. Here are some tips to use while setting out to accomplish real #goals.

Set a goal

When choosing a goal, follow your heart. There is never a goal too large, and there is never a goal too small. Reach high to achieve your goals, even if it seems crazy at first. However, never feel ashamed that your goal seems smaller or inadequate compared to ones that others may have. Put all comparisons aside and remember the only person you’re competing with is yourself.

No fear

Don’t allow fear to hold you back! Yes, it might be a treacherous climb to the top, but there will always be something great on the other side.

Cross out can’t

Of course this is the biggest cliché in the book, but it’s definitely true. Positive thinking does wonders! If you’re unsure about setting into a task, go into it thinking you will accomplish it. Pair this mindset with hard work and you never know what could happen.

Goodbye excuses

Excuses will only end up hurting you. Goals are for you and you only, so any excuse is a personal step backward. While excuses might have worked as a kid trying to avoid doing homework, they certainly won’t slide anymore.

Go the extra mile

It’s tough to find time in the midst of life’s hustle and bustle, but this tip is one of the most important while striving towards a goal. It’s going to take extra scheduling, dedication, and perseverance, which becomes difficult to maintain. Set aside a specific amount of time everyday to focus on one goal. Find friends and family that want to support you and hold you accountable. This will help make putting in that extra effort not as difficult or as stressful.

Take a break

It’s so easy to become caught up in the pressures that go along with pursuing goals. Remember to occasionally take a step back and relax. Trust the process and don’t make chasing a goal seem like a chore.

Reflect on progress and motivation

This is perfect to do when you are taking a break and relaxing. Re-charge and remind yourself why you’re aiming for this goal. Keep a record and reflect on the progress you’ve made. It’s helpful to look back 1 week ago, 3 weeks ago, 2 months ago, in order to see the bigger picture. Finally, celebrate the victories — no matter how big or small they might be.

Now get out there and earn those real #goals.
