Thanksgiving is the perfect time for people to express their graditude for things, opportunities, and the people in their lives. Thanksgiving also allows time off from school to go home and eat a delicious dinner prepared by family. At that time we acknowledge all of our family members, but as we fall back into the routine of being home, we sometimes forget to acknowledge the family we have created for ourselves here at Chapman.

Friendsgiving is the chance to acknowledge friends before everyone is separated for the week long break from school. Just as author Jess Scott said, “friends are the family you choose,” therefore we should take the time to eat good food and acknowledge how important they are in your life.

Get a group of your closest friends and have a potluck. If someone is brave enough to tackle cooking a turkey then great, but if not, don’t let that hold you all back. Make it a potluck and just bring good food even if it is not the traditional Thanksgiving meal you will be having at home. Eating good food and enjoying a meal together is the point of Friendsgiving, so if your friend group can’t or doesn’t want to be traditional, just order a pizza, make a salad, bake some yummy desserts and hang out and reminisce about the good times.

If you think about it, at this time in our lives we spend a ton of time with our friends studying, gossiping, going on adventures, and sometimes even partying. They see you at your best and worst, so taking the time to eat good food and chill with the homies before everyone goes their separate ways for the holidays is a good way to prepare for break and share time together before the stress of finals take over.

Spice it up by making it into a game night and enjoy the time together being goofy. They’re your Chapman family, so take the time to appreciate them.
