Campus Cutie: Andrew Wes Sutandar

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chapman chapter.

Major: Public relations and advertising, economics

Year: Senior

Hometown: Couldn’t decide between Singapore and Indonesia

Relationship Status: Single. It’s complicated. (What he’s really look for is a job, though.)

Affiliation: Alpha Kappa Psi

What has been your biggest accomplishment so far while attending Chapman?

Definitely being elected the vice president of membership in Alpha Kappa Psi. I oversee and organize all of the rush events. I am making these events for future members, the future of the fraternity. I want them to be interesting and show all of the opportunities that AKPsi has provided me.

What is your largest takeaway from AKPsi?

The sense of family. Coming to Chapman, I experienced a huge culture shock; I lived in Southeast Asia all of my life. I was socially awkward, had poor social skills and then I found my niche in AKPsi. The actives at the time were willing to extend their hand to me — I learned a lot; they saw something in me that I didn’t, and I am grateful. It’s hard to imagine how my college experience would be without AKPsi.

What are three traits you look for in a leader?

Someone who is relatable, leads by example and can delegate.

What are some of your plans or life goals you hope to achieve after graduation?

I really want to go into marketing, something in advertising. I want to learn as much as I can while in the States and then work in Indonesia or a developing country. I feel like it’d be a waste to learn in the States and keep my knowledge in the States. I want to branch out.

Favorite hangout spot?

Most of my time is on campus, so I’d have to say Starbucks. There’s always someone I recognize, and it’s always nice to see friends even if it’s just for a brief moment.

Any hobbies outside of school?

Hiking. With friends. Hiking with friends.

Favorite hike?

Yosemite, but Oregon’s also pretty great.

What is your guilty pleasure?

Hands down, ice cream sandwiches. I always make sure to eat one once a week. Chocolate chip with vanilla ice cream is my go-to, but cookies and cream is a close second.

Qualities you look for in a significant other?

Someone who is passionate about something and can take care of themselves. Their personality has to spark in some way and they have to live by that Golden Rule — treat others the way that you want to be treated. I’m huge on how they treat others.

Where would you take someone on a first date?

Depends on their personality, but if it were to be more generic, I’d cook for them — take them on a hike beforehand, bring them back to my place and then cook a meal.

Favorite dish to cook?

Aglio olio — shrimp pasta with olive oil.
