October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is a campaign to help bring attention and awareness to the disease.

Facts About Breast Cancer: 

  1. About 1 in 8 U.S. women (12.4%) will be diagnosed with breast cancer.
  2. Breast cancer is the second largest cause of death among women.
  3. Every 19 seconds, someone in the world is diagnosed with breast cancer.
  4. One woman will die of breast cancer every 13 minutes in the U.S.
  5. For women in the U.S., breast cancer death rates are higher than death rates for any other type of cancer, besides lung cancer.
  6. In the US today, there are over than 2.9 million breast cancer survivors.

Encourage the woman in your life to take screening exams and check for any symptoms. Doctors believe that early section tests can scan thousands of lives each year and that many more could be saved if women took advantage of these tests.
