Every college student knows how sad and monotonous the cafeteria can feel. You come in every day, three times a day, only to find the same questionable pasta dishes and salad bar vegetables before you. Luckily, there are ways to switch it up and survive the caf life.

1. Waffles

Even though regular waffles are an amazing food on their own, there are so many ways to make them more exciting. Add peanut butter, chocolate chips, cinnamon or fruit to the batter to get a little more out of your waffle machine.

2. Avocado toast

If avocado isn’t readily available in the salad bar, try any other station that might have it (in my experience, the sushi station always hooks it up). The great thing about avocado toast is that you can put virtually anything on it. Tomatoes, cucumbers, spinach or eggs are a great way to start. For extra flavor, try red pepper flakes from the pizza station, table salt, or lemon juice.

3. Iced coffee

For my caffeine addicts out there that have to drink hot coffee every day, even in hot weather, there’s another way. Make your regular coffee, then add ice to cool it down.

4. Breakfast sandwiches

As long as you have eggs available, you can use any kind of bread and other toppings to make the ultimate breakfast sandwich. Check out the normal breakfast items like bacon and sausage or add on deli meats, cheese or anything from the salad station.

5. Nachos

Nachos are one of the easiest cafeteria hacks to make. Simply grab some chips, add cheese and other toppings like beans or jalapenos, then microwave!

6. Floats

If you have a soft serve ice cream machine and a soda machine, you have endless possibilities. Obviously, you could make the classic root beer float, or you could be more adventurous and try Fanta or Coke.
