5 Questions You Are Dreading to Hear Over Winter Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chapman chapter.

The Holidays are almost here! Soon, Chapman will be deserted while all of us are home for winter break. Finals will be over, and we couldn’t be happier. The decorations will be up in our houses, and there will be so much food to eat. However, before you can even enjoy all the great things about the holidays, you forget just one thing. Uncle Bob and Aunt Sally and Grandma Mary and Grandpa Joe are coming over, and we know just what you’re dreading: the following five questions your family always asks you during break.

1. “So, what’s new?!”– Honestly, a lot is new. Like a lot is new. I have new friends, new classes, perhaps even a new cat that I’m trying to hide in my dorm. But let’s face it, I’m not going to tell you because that is just waaay to much to talk about. So yeah, nothing’s new.

2. “How’s school?”– I just finished finals, does it look like I want to talk about school just yet? Try no. No, I don’t want to talk about school. By the way, school is great if you don’t account for the classes, studying, and mental breakdowns.

3. “So did you meet anybody yet?”– Sorry grandma, no, I’m not engaged or married just yet. Actually, I haven’t even found a boyfriend. When the time is right, it will happen but for now, don’t remind me how single I am or how much I cry about it at night.

4. “What are your plans after graduation?”– I have lots of plans. I want to go travel the world and help third world countries while becoming the next Steve Jobs. Are these plans going to happen? Eh. So yeah, my plans are probably just getting a job, hopefully.

5. “Are you eating ok/sleeping and exercising enough?”– Eating ok? Eh. Does the caf food or Chipotle count? Sleeping enough? Eh. Does 3AM after finishing up my 10 page midterm paper count? Exercising enough? Eh. Wait, where’s the gym again..?”
