Top 3 Multicultural Beauty Gurus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chapel Hill chapter.

While I have grown to appreciate the world of hair, fashion and beauty; I also realize that many find it to be intimidating. Now, a community of YouTubers is working to change this and bridge the gap between make-up experts and beauty novices.

Since its inception, YouTube, a social media outlet has become a platform for all kinds of social interaction. More recently, women from all over the world have been using the website to share their personal beauty tips with others. These everyday women have developed into beauty experts or as the YouTube community describes them, gurus.  These women have opened their homes, make-up drawers and purses to their viewers by recording room tours, displaying their personal make-up collections and even sharing their most recent purchases. Many of the gurus also feature product reviews of both new and popular products. The recording of beauty-related video on YouTube has become so popular that the site now ranks gurus based on channel views per day.

Many beauty gurus also have used social networking websites like Twitter and Facebook to interact with their YouTube subscribers. I delved into the world of make-up and fashion through watching YouTube videos. In all, whether you are a beginner, wanting to learn more about hair and make-up or an experienced make-up artist, these ladies offer very useful creative styles and techniques of their own.

Here are a few of my favorite YouTube Gurus and the reasons that I have subscribed to their channels.
(They are in no particular order)

1.      DulceCandy87 ( Candy )
Candy Tejeda, known by her viewers as “Dulce” was one of the first YouTube beauty gurus that I remember watching. Dulce’s easy-to-follow tips demystify makeup for novices. Tejeda has been recognized many times for being one of the most viewed channels on YouTube. Tejeda has also been featured in Seventeen Magazine as a “Beauty Smartie.”

2.      Akaydoll ( Kayla)
Kayla is a college student, who embraces the idea that “less is more.” Many viewers, myself included, admire the simple approach she takes in creating make-up looks. Kayla’s channel is full of quick and easy make-up tips for busy college students as well as tons of great product reviews!

3.  Shirleybeniang ( Shirley Eniang)
From fashion to family this YouTube beauty records it all. As a Beauty Guru, fashion blogger and photographer, her videos cover a wide range of topics. Also, Shirley is frequently featured on many Internet look book websites. I appreciate her relate-ability the most. Most gurus try to keep their personal lives completely separate from their YouTube community, but Shirley gracefully moves between the two.
