Name: Thomas John Scholl
Hometown: Swansboro, NC
Year: Senior
Major: Journalism—Public Relations
Favorite YoPo Flavor: I just go with whatever is there. I need to get my YoPo game up, apparently.
Favorite place to study: Six floor Davis
Fun Fact: I used to be quite large as a little kid, and by quite large, I mean enormous.
Life Motto: Lead by example
Favorite Bar on Franklin: La Residence
Favorite Professional Athlete: Derek Jeter
Favorite Carolina Memory: Rushing Franklin as a freshman after the National Championship. Hopefully it will happen again as a senior!
Perfect Date: Something non-traditional, like a day out on the boat followed by grilling out and relaxing…definitely no dressing up and going to dinner just to sit and have awkward conversation.
Craziest thing you have ever done: I went sky diving in New Zealand in the Bay of Islands. It was outrageous.
Plan After Graduation/Dream Job: Well, right now, anything that can pay the bills, but my dream job would be to work for ESPN doing event management for award shows and tournaments.
Favorite Quote: “We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.” Proverbs 16:9
What do these 4 places have in common: The field, the library, Franklin Street, and church? They are all places TJ has been spotted around campus.
The soccer field is TJ’s second home seeing as he is captain and president of the men’s club soccer team. In his four years as defender, he has traveled with the team to Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, and Arizona to play in and win tournaments.
On top of soccer, TJ is active in Champions Bible Study, a group for Christian athletes, and he also enjoys going to The Summit in Durham on weekends.
If you look at TJ’s Facebook profile, you will notice that he loves to travel. In the past year, he has been to California, New Zealand and most recently Venezuela for his internship with USA Baseball in Durham. While in Venezuela, TJ was the sole Press Officer for the 14U National Team, which took home the gold medal in the tournament. In October, he gets the chance to travel to Panama City, Panama and be the media correspondent for the professional national team as they play in the baseball World Cup. He is hoping the teams go two-for-two on the gold medals.
Friends and family are also very important to TJ. He has an older sister who is a graduate of UNC and a younger sister who is currently a senior in high school. When they are all home together, they love to go out on the boat, travel to concerts and road trip to sporting events. And if you want some alone time with TJ, take a number. He is constantly surrounded by (mostly female) friends, whether in class, on Franklin or at any Carolina game.
Senior TJ Scholl is athletic, handsome and an all-around good guy. What more could you be looking for in a Campus Cutie?
