MB: I would have to say southern hospitality and all of the history North Carolina has to offer. Also the bugs and the weather. The weather is not as nice as San Diego.

What is your favorite part of Carolina?

MB: The people here are fantastic, I have met so many great friends, including fellow Tar Heel transfers. Also North Carolina is so beautiful, I have never seen so many trees before in my life. My classes that I am taking right now are very interesting and make my time at Carolina great.

MB: I have established a whole new world at UNC. I now have two homes — one in San Diego and one at Carolina. I love that I now have two places to call home.

What advice would you give to other out of state transfer students?

MB: Don’t be hesitant to put yourself out there. It is crucial that you meet people, especially in the first week of classes. Also bring lots of bug spray!

What advice would you give to a fellow California girl transferring to Carolina?

MB: Be prepared for a lot of rain, but don’t wear a ski jacket in a rainstorm or you will die from heat exhaustion. You will meet lots of people with different backgrounds from your own and thats great embrace these differences, but remember to stay true to yourself and let your diversity contribute to your new group.

What do you most look forward to during your time at Carolina?

MB: I look forward to establishing a home here. I can’t wait to learn more both inside and outside of the classroom. I also cant wait to meet new people and keep exploring all that Carolina has to offer.

What is your best memory so far as a Tar Heel?

MB: By far my best memory was the SDSU vs UNC football game. Being able to to be in the student section during this exciting game with my fellow transfers was an amazing experience.

How do you cope with being so far away from home? Any Advice for other Tar Heel Transfers in your shoes?

MB: Be sure to have a good foundation. Call your family everyday even if it is only for two minutes. This way you know what is going on in each others lives and you still feel connected. Also don’t be afraid to embrace the homesickness.

My name is Lauren, I am a recent transfer student to The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I previously attended George Mason University, where I was a member of PRSSA, Gamma Phi Beta International sorority, and Golden Key International Honour Society. I grew up in North Carolina, but spent a year in-between my freshman and sophomore year of college living in Bratislava, Slovakia with my family. During my time abroad I had an internship with The Slovak Atlantic Commission and was able to work in a multi-cultural work environment. I also traveled throughout Europe while I was living in Slovakia, some of my favorite places I visited are London, Cannes, Zurich, Budapest, and Krakow. My goal is to one-day work as an entertainment publicist, I attended the 66th Festival de Cannes with my Cannes Cinephiles Accreditation. While at Cannes I met many industry leaders and knew this was the career for me. I am also a student member of The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. I look forward to the new adventures that await me as a transfer student at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
