It’s hard to shake my personal bias on this one and speak for every guy. The gym is my place of relaxation. I also am very partial to girls I see in the gym because it demonstrates that they care for their body and are motivated to stay healthy. I’m not sure if it’s a subconscious attraction but I also know that any girl that looks good in the gym is most likely going to look even better when she isn’t disheveled or sweaty from hitting the treadmill for half an hour. Now when it comes to going to the gym with a girl I am all for it as long as two guidelines are abided by.
The first is: I don’t really want to lift weights with a girl. If my girlfriend or a girl who is a friend does want to come to the gym with me to stay motivated and force herself to go even when she doesn’t feel like it I can definitely appreciate it. I just don’t want to be spotting her benching every 10 seconds or having her tag along through my workout. If she is going to do her own thing and I can do mine then I am all for her coming. Maybe meet up in the ab’s section or something.
The second is: It will bug me to no end if the girl finishes first and is waiting around for me to finish. I don’t want to feel rushed or have to cut my workout short because the girl is finished. Those are really the only two drawbacks to a girl coming to the gym.
Girls worry too much about being sweaty or being gross at the gym. Guys understand you are there to work and we don’t expect you to look like you’re going out for a night on the town. Also, if you think you’d get mad at your guy checking out a girl or two at the gym I’d steer clear. With all the testosterone flowing and guys feeling good about themselves, eyes can wander. As long as you can feel like those aren’t too constraining then I’d definitely support you going to the gym together. It’s a good time to relieve some stress and feel better about your bodies. That can only lead to good things!
