Making Your Years Memorable

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chapel Hill chapter.

As we come to the end of yet another school year, a lot of students take some time to reflect on the past school year. As a senior, this is especially true. Every year at this university has been a journey and a new experience. Looking back on your four years at Carolina, you want to remember all the great times so here are 8 ways to help make your time at UNC more memorable. Keep them in mind when next school year begins!

  1. Know it’s okay to change majors–Absolutely no one else is going to live your life other than you. You have to figure out what YOU love to do, not what everyone wants or expects of you. Choose a major that emcompasses something that you really enjoy and wouldn’t mind doing every day. This is the rest of your life we’re talking about, you deserve to be happy.

  1. Get involved–Find organizations and activities that spike your interest. If you like to sing, join an a cappella group! The possibilities of things to do on this campus are unlimited! Fall Fest is a great way to learn all about campus organizations and groups so make sure you go and gather information and attend a few meetings to find out if their goals and mission align with yours.

  1. Make new friends–It’s great to have a group of people that you always hang out with, but it’s also great to go outside of your comfort zone and hang out with new people. Eat with a different group in the dining hall, introduce yourself to someone you see on campus all the time whose name you may not know, try an intramural sport.

  1. Take pictures–There’s nothing better than getting to senior year and looking back on pictures that take you back to your first year. The memories and laughs are priceless. Plus, no matter where you go after graduation, you’ll always have a reminder of the fun you had in college and the people that made it so special.

  1. Have a semester without Friday classes–Not having Friday classes is amazing! You not only get a longer weekend, but also time to sleep in, which is always blissful. Or, you can get a jumpstart on writing papers, completing projects or just doing homework…but probably not.

  1. Spend time in the sun on Polk Place–When you’re outside and you see everyone sitting, laughing, talking and genuinely enjoying their time here, you appreciate UNC just a little more.

  1. Remember, above all else, you’re here for academics. It’s great to have fun with your friends and go out every once in awhile, but don’t get so caught up in your social life that you forget your academic life.

  1. The most important piece of advice anyone can tell you is to just have fun. College is four years to grow and learn more about your life and future. When you get to your senior year and reflect on your beginning at UNC, don’t wish you participated in an intramural or gone to a campus event, do it while you still have the time! The people you meet here and the activities in which you participate all have the potential to greatly impact your life.
