From my personal experience, knowledge of astrology can be broken into four tiers. Everyone knows his or her sun sign, also known as a zodiac sign or star sign; that’s the first tier. Then, in the second tier, there’s something called the Big Three; beyond the sun sign, there’s also the moon sign and the rising/ascendant sign. Thanks to apps like Co-Star, more and more people are becoming familiar with the other core signs. The third tier consists of the rest of the planets in the solar system, which some people know, while others don’t. Lastly, the crazy stuff: the houses, the angles, the degrees, all the things that I can barely figure out myself, much less explain to you guys.

For that reason, we’ll keep it simple, today: moon signs! A little scary, right? Essentially, a moon sign refers to where the moon was positioned in the sky when you were born. It changes rather frequently too, approximately every two days, so it’s not something dependent on generation or locations — it’s as scattered, if not more scattered, than your sun sign!

Essentially, a moon sign is who you are at your most vulnerable or intimate — who you are at your inner core.

You could go online and search “tell me about my moon signs,” and dozens upon dozens of articles that can sum it up better than I do will be at your fingertips. I figured I’d do something fun and unique — here’s a song for each moon sign, as well as key lyrics and an elaboration with each one!

Aries Moon: There is a Light That Never Goes Out

Take me out tonight

Where there’s music and there’s people

And they’re young and alive

Driving in your car

I never never want to go home

Aries Moons have a stubborn will to do something, anything, to make their lives something worth living. Impulsivity is what makes them feel the most alive.

Taurus Moon: New Slang

And if you took to me like, well

I’d a-danced like the queen of the eyesores

And the rest of our lives would have fared well

Listen to the softness of this Shins track — the inner sensitivity is astounding. Taurus Moons have a certain sensitivity with a list of expectations of what their lives should be like, and they’re open enough to share.

Gemini Moon: Because I’m Me

If she don’t love me, what can I do?

Just put on my best pair of shoes

Because I, I’m me

Because she said, “he’s the one that drill the charms

Honey let’s go wrong”

Gemini Moons are a burst of energy. If they’re not stimulated, then, that’s it; they’ll go find a way to keep themselves actively occupied. Their cleverness is always evident.

Cancer Moon: Coins

Time stands still and then one day it’s gone

Where did it go? Where did I go?

We couldn’t wait to grow old

But I can’t fight the feeling anymore

All water moons are rather heavy in the emotion department, and Cancer Moons are no exception. They’re ruled by the heart over the head, and they simultaneously crave vulnerability and self-isolation.

Leo Moon: Creature Comfort

Creature comfort makes it painless

Bury me penniless and nameless

Born in a diamond mine

It’s all around you, but you can’t see it

Leo Moons are implicit leaders with massive hearts of gold and well-built walls around their sources of pride. They are permanent sources of enthusiasm and will gladly call themselves bossy.

Virgo Moon: Always Something There to Remind Me

Well how can I forget you?

When there is always something there to remind me

Always something there to remind me

I was born to love you

And I will never be free

You’ll always be a part of me

Detail-oriented and tunnel-visioned, Virgo Moons are some of the hardest workers in the Zodiac. They have trouble acknowledging their own feelings, if only because their heads move so quickly.

Libra Moon: Harmony Hall

We took a vow in summertime

Now we find ourselves in late December

I believe that New Year’s Eve

Will be the perfect time for their great surrender

But they don’t remember

Libra Moons are a study in both contradictions and equilibriums, ever the people-pleasers and prone to noticing the little things about their loved ones’ personalities, but they often forget to focus on themselves.

Scorpio Moon: Sonsick

Oho, don’t be scared, that it’s a harder kind of feel

Hold on tight, you must hold on, unless you’re in it

Ease your mind, and when you think, you’re thinking clear

It’s alright, you really tired for a minute

I just say, that it’s another on the clock

It is a summer-calling sickness

The most intense of the moon signs, Scorpio Moons are gifted with a capability to love and understand the world around them at a deeper level, but that often comes with a price, which usually takes the form of extreme anxiety regarding control.

Sagittarius Moon: Daylight

I miss yellow lines in my roads

Some color on monochrome

Maybe I’ll paint them in myself

Sagittarius Moons have the souls of adventurers, with a desire to discover what’s out there and a penchant for getting bored with monotony pretty quickly. An optimist, if reluctant!

Capricorn Moon: Powerful Man

Cause you know that I have no fear

Ain’t gonna walk into the river and disappear

I’m gonna be a powerful man

Capricorn Moons have dreams, and they’ll do anything to accomplish them. They’re never satisfied with the quest for self-improvement; they’re their own biggest critic, even if they’re also the most accomplished of their personal circle.

Aquarius Moon: TOKYO

Too many things I’d rather do different

Woke up in a cold sweat, my emotions creepin’

Three o’clock on the weekend, might as well sleep in

Stay down for the count when

She hit me with the “what-ifs?”, and the “what-whens?” and the “what-thens?”

Wonder where my life went, living in the moment

Aquarius Moons like to acknowledge what’s expected of them and reject it, even if it’s on a smaller, more subtle level than their sun counterparts. Freedom is what they need to survive.

Pisces Moon: A Pearl

And it left a pearl in my head

And I roll it around

Every night, just to watch it glow

Every night, baby, that’s where I go

Mystical and contemplative, Pisces Moons exude sensibility and a touch of softness, if a dash of escapism. And that’s okay – everyone needs a vacation, every once in a while.

That’s moon signs for you! Signing off, a fatigued Scorpio Moon.
