Her Campus UNC’s Top 3 Rules to Fun and Safe Weekends in Chapel Hill

When it comes to portraying college life, Hollywood has surely set the bar; Alcohol in every direction, a million cute boys, and an overall good time. UNC is not home to the cast of Van Wilder or of Animal House. However, for any student that has ever experienced nightlife at Chapel Hill, just because we aren’t a Hollywood fabricated film doesn’t mean we don’t party hard. Just like everything else in life, moderation is key and there should always be basic guidelines to having a good time!

1. Travel in a group

Some of the worst things happen to people, especially females, when they are out alone at night. Although UNC has improved their safety measures, you should never place yourself in a situation where your safety might be jeopardized. So if you’re going out, go with a group of friends so that you never find yourself alone! UNC students are also offered the option of taking the P2P after 7pm so you don’t have to walk all the way through campus alone, and on Sundays through Thursdays from 11pm-3am, you can call a pair of Safe Walkers to accompany you back to an on-campus location.

2. Be spontaneous!

There is always a ton to do in Chapel Hill! Nightlife here ranges from parties in Frat Court to simply hanging out with friends in a dorm. Some of the best moments in life occur without being planned so don’t feel the need to stick to a weekend routine. Switch it up every now and then and let the good times roll!

3. Ride safe and smart

If you plan to go out to an off campus event or party, just remember to ride safe. UNC’s P2P system and the buddy system are always a safe way of getting from place to place if you don’t feel comfortable riding in a vehicle with someone else. Driving while under the influence is not only illegal, but it puts your life and the life of everyone in the vehicle at risk.
