Future “It” Girls: Soon-to-be Style Icons Worth Watching

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chapel Hill chapter.

Some style icons are obvious. The entire fashion industry worships at the altar of Kate Moss. We all die for Rachel Zoe’s bananas ensembles. Even Anna Wintour, the Devil in Prada herself, swoons over Sarah Jessica Parker and her Sex and the City alter ego, Carrie Bradshaw.

However, as we and our collective fashion favorites age, attention must be paid the newcomers to the scene. Check out this new crop of icons-to-be. Get a glimpse of the girls whose looks you’ll be copying ad nauseam for years to come.

Solange Knowles
While her sister awaits the triumphant arrival of Babyonce, Solange has graciously stepped in to serve as the interim Knowles family fashion ambassador. However, given the fervor surrounding Solange’s bright colored ensembles, Beyonce might have to compete for the attention of the fashion elite upon her return. As the tribal-printed bohemian to Beyonce’s manicured glamazon, Solange is her sister’s sartorial opposite. She is the stylish counterpoint for the rebellious younger sibling in us all. Here’s hoping the Knowles sisters can share the fashion spotlight while finding their ways into our closets.

Elle Fanning
Like Solange Knowles, Elle Fanning is perhaps best known in relation to her famous older sister, Dakota Fanning. Unlike Solange, however, Elle isn’t even old enough to drive a car. The fourteen-year-old hasn’t let that stop her from cultivating a personal style envied by women four times her age. Any eighth grader who can pull off the Rodarte jumpsuit seen above is certain to achieve icon status in no time.

The Courtin-Clarins Quartet
These leggy Parisian heirs to the Clarins skincare company have virtually taken over the New York fashion scene in a matter of months. By mixing neon, vintage and couture with an insouciance rarely seen stateside, they have quadruple-handedly inspired a collective loosening of ties. Fashion should never be dull and it should never be a chore. Take a cue from the Courtin Clarins girls and treat every day as a fashionable occasion.

Lauren Santo Domingo
The Moda Operandi founder isn’t exactly a newcomer to the fashion scene, but she still isn’t a household name. Domingo has an unmatched gift for reinterpreting classic looks with an edge. Every girl, no matter how traditional or avant-garde her style is, could learn a thing or two from Lauren’s styling prowess.
